After performing a local move request using the Exchange console the mailbox appears under the 'disconnected mailbox'.

The move completes without error.  Does it just take time before those entries will dissapear under the disconnected mailbox list.

Thanks

I can't add a distribution group to the permissions of a new public Calendar due to a little red circle

Hi there,

I’ve just created a new universal mail-enabled distribution group and when I right click on my newly created public calendar in Outlook 2010 and select the permission tab and click on Add and select All Groups I can see my new DG but there is a little red circle beside it and when I click on it to add it is says “One or more users cannot be added to the folder access list.  Non-local users cannot be given rights on this server.”

I don’t have a clue why this is.  Some distribution groups don’t have the red circle beside it and I can add those DGs into the permission tab so any help in allowing me to add that new distribution group would be much appreciated!

Out of curiosity I am using Exchange Server 2010 so if there is a better / server-side why to achieve my goal of having a public shared calendar, restricted to some people having owner rights and some having reviewer rights then please explain how I do that.

Thanks in anticipation,

Tony

Once I got past using ADSIEdit to remove the Exchange servers from the Configuration > Services > Microsoft Exchange.... in AD, it started to install fine, then failed on the CAS server role.  It may be part of the same issue.  Here is the error while installing........
Any help would be appreciated.  This being my first real experience with Exchange, I'm not doing so well <sigh>.

Multiple Companies Address Books

We are planing on hosting exchange for multiple companies right now and we need to be able to easily seperate address lists for each company so that they only see their own employees in Outlook.  Can this be done and does MS provide any documents on how to implement this?

Outlook OWA folder permissions

$

Have a new server setup with Exchange 2010.  The email accounts were preexisting and imported from an IMAP account.

The accounts seem to be working fine with one exception.  If the account is being accessed via OWA, the user cannot move emails from the inbox to the folders that were created from the import.  If a new folder is created then they have full access.  Also they can move emails into those folders if they are using Outlook.

Following the advice of another person on another forum I used the Get-Folderpermission command to get the folder permissions.  It was then I realized I hadn't put the latest version of SP2 on and promptly installed it.  I say this because I see some posts out there that say installing SP2 should fix permission issues.

Here is what I get from using the command on folders I can and cannot copy emails to.

First here is the results of Get-Folderpermission on one of the folders I am unable to copy to in OWA.

554 554 Relay access denied (state 13)

Hi everyone

I am trying to add a second mail domain to my network.

As of right now I am able to send mail using these mailboxes but unable to receive external mail.  I am able to send mail between my existing domain and the new one internally.  If I send a message to this new domain from my Gmail account I receive the following:

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 <user@domain.on.ca>: Relay access denied (state 13).

To set this up originally I've followed these articles:

http://blog.shareef.info/2010/06/02/configuring-multiple-e-mail-domains-in-exchange-2010/

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996314.aspx

http://paulslager.com/?p=140

Didn't seem like anything too fancy...setup a new accepted domain as an authoritative domain and an email address policy if you want.  In addition to this I have setup an MX record with the ISP and performing an SMTP test on mxtoolbox.com returns the same results as when I run it on my working domain.

I've been looking for some information but haven't been able to find any that has been of use in resolving this.  Can someone help?

Hello,

We have the following problem with one mailbox of our 90. (This mailbox has been deleted 1 week ago and was reconnected to the AD User)

The user can successfull access to OWA, but can't access to his "Options" (/ecp/). It appears a "permission denied" message.

Exchange 2010 OWA - HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found

After a reboot of a Server 2008 R2 machine with Exchange 2010, OWA and Outlook Anywhere have stopped working correctly.  When I try to start a OWA session, it lets me login, but the page that comes up is saying "HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found" "The requested content apprears to be script and will not be service by the static file handler.

I've run the process to re-register .NET, but this didn't help.
I've rebuilt the OWA virtual Directory, but this didn't help.

Any thoughts/advice would be great!

Thanks

Should port 25 be listening on all interfaces on an Edge Transport Server?

$

So my setup is as follows: (Edge Transport Server 2010 SP1 on Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Windows firewall enabled)

External interface: 192.168.1.208

Internal interface: 10.0.0.208 (vlan created in hyper-v, only accessible by other hyper-v machines)

From other machines on 192.168.1.* I can telnet to port 25 on 192.168.1.208 fine.

From other machines on 10.0.0.* I can not telnet to port 25 on 10.0.0.208.  (The hub transport service is installed in 10.0.0.205, from it I can telnet to port 50636 and 50389, but not 25)

On the edge server I can telnet to 192.168.1.208:25 fine, but not to localhost:25 or 10.0.0.208:25.

Is this normal?  Or should I be able to hot 25 from my hub transport server?

Exchange 2010 DAG Quorum Configuration

$

So I came upon an interesting event this evening. I had an Exchange DAG setup with two witness servers with file shares setup for the Quorum configuration. I set this up about 6 months ago. I go to install updates on the Exchange servers and I checked the cluster manager and find a bunch of errors. It turns out someone removed one of the witness servers completely and removed the Fileshare from the other witness server. So both fileshares are gone and I'm actually surprised that the DAG is still working at all.

So here is my dilemma, I'm not sure if I can just configure two new witness shares from scratch. I'm hoping I can. It's been a while since I've done this and I can't remember the entire process. Any suggestions? I have a feeling this isn't something that happens a lot.

D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folder Database 1263017443 - EDB Size: 202.78GB

When I use Windows Server Backup to backup the Full Server, it runs for 5 sec on 'Creating shadow copies of volumes' then fails with 'The read operation from the volume shadow copy on one of the source volumes failed. Make sure all the volumes included in the backup operation are available and accessible and then retry the operation. Detailed error: Access is denied'
When I check eventvwr, for the Backup event, it shows Error 521 'The backup operation that started at '‎2012‎-‎08‎-‎10T02:08:42.876000000Z' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348106'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.'
Some researched asked to check for VSS Application Event logs. I found one Warning from MSExchangeIS - Exchange VSS Writer, Error 9857 which is 'Exchange VSS Writer (instance 0fcdbb52-62a3-4db5-8503-a5a8ab5096a1) has detected an orphaned backup instance (bf23e53e-5127-4310-b564-c142e488dc62). This means that the instance successfully completed the OnPrepareBackup phase, but was abandoned after that (without any further calls into the Exchange VSS Writer). The instance has been reclaimed.' and that is all.
F: is my backup destination.
I have performed an uninstall and reinstall of Windows Server Backup, via the Server Manager console, doing a restart inbetween.
If i use Windows Server Backup to backup only certain parts of the server, such as Bare Metal Recovery, System State, or C:, the backup works fine. Only when i select D:, either exclusively or as part of a full backup, is when the backup fails with the above errors.
I know that there is a Sql Server VSS Writer on this server, however there is no SQL Server installed, only some files such as C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlwriter.exe

A bit more history: We were using Windows Server Backup to backup the server for awhile, until we decided to try Symantec BackupExec 2012 for a week. The server we had this running on was too slow, so we switched back to Windows Server Backup (on Sunday 5th Aug) where I uninstalled the Symantec Agent. Ever since Windows Server Backup hasn't worked. Not sure if this is coincidence or not.

Hope someone can help! Any questions are welcome!

Migrated users get error (0x8004010F) for offline address book, when accessing mailbox in source forest

Hi

We are in the middle of an active directory migration using ADMT, from domain A (source) to domain B (target).

Domain A has AD 2003 and exchange 2003 SP2. Domain B is windows 2008 R2 domain. No exchange server installed in target domain (domain B).

Migrated users can access their mailbox in Source domain using the SID history.

Issue is users get below error when they try to download offline address book.

"Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.'

I get the same error in my test lab as well (fresh AD, Exchange, new outlook profile).

Offline Address Book works fine if user login using source\username.

Highly appreciate any help on this.

Mail enabled group and recipient mailboxes in different post organizations

Hi

We have Windows 2008R2 domain which contains all our students and teachers. We can call it as domain.com. We have domain.com Exchange 2010 organization which contains teachesrs mailboxes. Students mailboxes are migrated to office365 cloud service. They have their own post domain student.domain.com.

Students use active directory federation service as single sing on service when using their mailboxes.

Is it possible to do like that:

I have Mail enabled group in domain.com Exchange organization. Mail address for example group.domain.com. Users in this group are students, whose mailboxes are in offfice365 cloud. User e-mail can be for example student1.student.domain.com.

So my question is that is this possible? Mail enabled group in one organization and recipient mailboxes in other organization.

I have the same problem like in this topic:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/da-DK/exchangesvrtransport/thread/686d1a90-a016-4a4c-ae2e-6725914a5d5a?prof=required

The latest Windows/Exchange 2010 Updates are installed.

The solution from fiona didn´t help:

"I would suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:

  • Remove the exppw.dll entry from applicationhost.cofig (c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\config)Note: Remember take a backup before you remove the line.
  • Then registered the exppw.dll by following the below steps:

  1. IIS Manager -> Select the Server Name in the left Pane -> Open Modules in the middle pane.
  2. Click on ‘Configure Native Modules’ in the right pane -> Click the button ‘Register’ -> Type the name as ‘exppw’
  3. Browse and select the path of above file as: c:\Programme Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Client Access\OWA\Auth\exppw.dll.
  4. Made sure that the 'exppw.dll' is only present at OWA level and not at any of the top heirarchy.
  5. Then ensured for this module in OWA (VDir), ‘Module Type’ is set to ‘Native’ and ‘Entry Type’ is ‘Local’
  6. Run IISreset /noforce

Let me know if this works. Thanks. "

Hi All,

I run a small business and now need two users to be able to access my Outlook database for administration from two separate PCs.

Also for separate staff calendars on separate machines to be administered by all users.

Is this possible and what do I need to ask for.

We are very good at what we do for business but it is not IT :)

All advice is appreciated.
