Exchange 2010: Duplicate emails in Outlook - Mailbox size growing enormous

0
0

Hi,

Few months ago, we did a cross forest migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.

Over the last few months, Exchange 2010 users have been reporting they have been receiving duplicate emails in their Outlook (Outlook 2010).

Over the last few weeks, we have been seeing mailbox sizes shoot sky high, for example from 500MB to 5GB. Having looked into this, we are seeing that these users are receiving duplicate emails in their inbox.

We have also been running a PowerShell cmdlet to see the DeletedItems folder sizes and they are very large - Larger than the size of the inbox itself.

Today we looked at a specific user, who, for every email in her Inbox folder had multiple duplicates of the same email in her "Recover Deleted Items" folder. This means, any email that is sent to her inbox, without her deleting it, the email is being duplicated in her Recover Deleted Items folder. Note, the email is not in her Deleted Items folder, but in the RECOVER Deleted Items.

The duplicated email has the SAME Message ID.

What we see in her Inbox is very quick flickering. When we look carefully, a duplicate email seems to be created under each email and then it dissappears and then the email below it has a duplicate which suddenly dissappears.. its goes on like this throughout her Inbox.. then when we notice in the Recover Deleted Items folder that the duplicate emails are sitting here. This is causing the mailbox size to grow enormous!

1. We notice this issue is with users that were migrated from the other forest (previous Exchange 2003) and this issue is not occuring to NEW mailboxes created.

2. Duplicate emails are regardless if the Sender is from Inside or Outside the Exchange Organisation.

3. Though the above user example illustrates that the user had emails going straight into Recover Deleted Items, we have seen one user who had up to 500 duplicates of an email in his Inbox.

4. These users do not have any Outlook Rules set up.

5. These mailboxes have been migrated over as Linked Mailboxes and not User Mailboxes - not sure if this affects this issue.

6. These users are NOT using POP3 or BlackBerry. Only Outlook 2010.

Thanks

problem with copy and move from one public folder to another Exchange 2010, Outlook 2010, OWA

I have two public folders, we will call them “Folder A” and “Folder B” and both are on the same server.

If I open Outlook 2010 using the Administrators credentials and try to move something from “Folder A” to “Folder B” Outlook responds with:  “The item cannot be moved. It was either already moved or deleted, or acces was denied.”

If I open up Outlook Web access, logon using the same credentials, and do the same thing, there is no problem moving the content.

Sometimes Outlook 2010 will let me copy content from “Folder A” and “Folder B” and sometimes it will not. When it does not, it has the error noted above.

Any suggestions on how to trouleshoot or resole this issue? It’s a PITA to have to log into Outlook Web access every time I want to move some content.

Thanks!

Outlook keeps prompting for password

This is a weird situation.  User logs in to domain without issues and is able to access outlook.  However, during the middle of the day,  outlook keeps prompting user for authentication or password.

Profile has been re-created.  ESSO cache was cleared, but still the same thing. Created separate email profile for other email accounts she access, but same issue still occurs.

Has anyone seen this issue and what resolution have you used.

getting Schannel 36874 errors on my CAS/HT servers

See below.. everything seems to be working fine but we get these a couple of times a day at random times.

Schannel 36888 - " The following fatal alert was generated: 40. The internal error state is 107."

Schannel 36874 - " An SSL 3.0 connection request was received from a remote client application, but none of the cipher suites supported by the client application are supported by the server. The SSL connection request has failed."

Cannot move an Outlook folder if it contains nested folders.

We discovered that you cannot delete or move folders from a shared mailbox if they contain sub-folders.  A message is displayed "Cannot monve the items. Cannot copy this folder because it may contain private items"  There are no private items in the folders.

Environment:

  • Exchange 2010 Sp1
  • Outlook 2010

Steps to reproduce:

  • Create a Shared mailbox and assign the user full access.
  • Have the user add the shared mailbox as a an additional mailbox.  Account Settings>More Settings> Advanced tab.  "Open these additional mailboxes"

Within the shared mailbox

  • create "Folder 1"
  • Inside "folder1" create a subfolder called "Folder2"
  • attempt to move or delete "Folder1"

There are a couple post discussing this topic but no solution or declaration that is is by design.  Please let us know if there is a work around for this.

Script to find certain sized messages a move them to a folder.

We are preparing to move our organization to Exchange Online.    Because of this we have an issue that no message in any mailbox can be > 25MB.   Management wants a script to parse every user's mailbox to find messages that are> 25MB and put them in a folder in that mailbox called 'Large Items' so that the end users can deal with them on their own.

I am unable to find any script that will go through EVERY user's mailbox and make this folder and move items into it.   Has anyone else done this?

Test E-Mail Autoconfiguration gives new DR CAS server as Internal OWA Url

Testing the Outlook Autoconfiguration gives the new DR CAS as the internal OWA Url. Before deploying the DR Cas it was pointing to Primary Side correct CAS. I think this has something to do with SCP and Autodiscover endpoints. We have 2 CAS and 1 DR CAS. How does the scp determine which endpoint for autodiscover is used? Is is alphabetical or does a new deployment stick that server on top of the list?  Each server has the correct Owa Internal URL settings for the respective server. Is there a way to modifiy something to make Test E-Mail Autodiscover return an OWA internal URL for a server on the Primary side?

is it possible to use two differennt URLs for owa.domain.com for owa and ecp.domain.com for ECP. I understand this may break ECP integration with OWA.

We don't want users to access ECP when accessing from external computer, but allow ecp access from internal network.

Two websites is one option, but want to know if multiple URLs is an option as well.

Exchange 2010 Journaling Issue

0
0

We are running Exchange 2010 and Are trying to validate a journaling architecture.  In order to do this, we have created several mailboxes, all of which forward to a blackhole distro list in Exchange.

All of those mailboxes are in a journaling-enables group and journaling is in force for that group.

The problem is that the emails sent to those mailboxes are not journaled unless a copy of the email stays in the mailbox.  As we are going to test using a high volume of messages, we do *not* want to kep a copy of the received mail in the test users mailbox, we want those to disappear into the ether (hence the blackhole address they all forward to).

The issue is that unless we check the box that keeps a copy and forward a copy, the messages are *not* journaled.  This seems to me that if one could circumvent journaling by forwarding a journaled mailbox to a non-journaled mailbox which would be a pretty big issue.

Can someone help me sort this out?

Thanks!

-Chris

Unified Messaging-Modify Missed Call notification

Not sure if this is possible, but here's to hoping. We are on Exchange 2010.

We have several users here who have multiple lines on Unified Messaging, but these lines are for different job roles. They would like to have a different display for every phone. (For example, if they make a call and it's from a main line they want it to say "Missed call from Front Desk", but if it's their personal extension, it should say "Missed Call from John Smith"). Please let me know if this is possible.

Thank you.

Custom Role Group write scope

Hi all,

At this moment we are using a custom role group that allows a few admins to create, edit and remove mailboxes in a child domain. On this role I applied a write scope of 1 OU.

Is it possible to add another OU to this scope? fe. Domain/OU1 and Domain/OU2 as the write scope for this role group.

thanks in advance

Exchange 2010 Message Tracking Logs and Calendar appointments

0

A little context here...  We consume our message tracking logs with splunk so I can easily search and locate entries as needed.  I have an alert that generates an email when specific calendars accept a meeting request.

I can pull the meeting title and specific calendar name, but the problem I am having is determining when the "meeting" is scheduled.  The data in the tracking logs shows me that the meeting was accepted today, but the actual meeting may not be for a week or more in the future.

Is there any data in the tracking logs that can be translated to show the actual date of the meeting?

Here is an example sanitized meeting request and acceptance
