I have to create a CAS array. I have installed a second server (EX2) which will be the first member for a DAG. The old server (EX1) will be upgraded to server 2008 R2 Enterprise and then i'll be able to create the DAG. Each server has the roles, Hub, Client Access, Mailbox installed on it. My concern is that before I get this EX2 configured for Client Access and moving mailboxes to the new databases, I have to create a CAS Array so that the AD property get's applied to the new mailbox databases pointing to the CAS array FQDN. My concern is that this is all being done in an active environment. So let me ask a few questions:
- Will any clients be affected on EX1 if I add the CAS array on EX2. I know it's created at the organization level, but can I remove EX1 from the array?
- During the creation process for the CAS Array, do any IIS bindings get changed? (SSL Certs, Adapter Bindings wiped, etc..)
My plan is to keep DNS records how they are, then when everything is configured, make the DNS changes and have a smooth transition. If creating the CAS Array changes how clients connect then my plan will need to change.
I also have some concerns with my network environment. I have two NICs on both servers, and both servers are attached to the cloud. We have two DNS servers, one for plublic DNS and the other for internal DNS AD. CAS arrays only allow for one FQDN and only one CAS array can be created per AD site and we have a single AD site.
Would I simply just create an FQDN for the CAS Array and then create different A records for it for each DNS Server?
