Internal and External DNS name mismatch and wildcard cert

This seems to be a common question with some resolution, but I have found one more I think.  We're running a E2010 environment with a mix of O2003/2007/2010 clients.  We're using a wildcard cert of company.com, but the internal address space of the servers is ds.city.company.ad, so we couldn't get a mixed cert if we wanted to, .ad belongs to some tiny country in Europe...

Anyway, updating many things, OAB VD, OWA VD, Autodiscover, and a few others, (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940726) and most everything is working, however when using Outlook Anywhere remotely, the public folder server resolving to the internal fqdn and doesn't let the OAB download.  Currently were still set to Public Folder for OAB, haven't had any success with web based OAB distribution, with any client.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Also, is an Internal/External DNS mismatch also considered disjoint namespace?

K.
