No longer using .local in SSL?

I just found out today I can't use public SSL for my .local customers as I was trying to get my cert.  I include the server.domain.local so the ECP functions properly.

What are simple options?

Assuming the customer has company.local and company.com in their DNS like most do Can I simply create a dns record called ecp.domain.com and change the internal/external URL vs using the default host name?  I did this and restarted iis, Opened the EMC for 2010 and went to toolbox then RBAC to test, IE pulled up the correct URL but the page was not found.  I did put an entry in the HOSTS file for testing.

THis is going to be an issue as I have several pending migrations and I would hate to leave them like this. No they dont have an internal CA to use

Thanks, Grady Vogt
