MS Exchange 2010 - Send connector problems

Hi all

Our Exchange 2010 is sp1 with rollup3v3 on a 2008R2 Standard Server with the latest SP and Hotfixes.
All Exchange roles are on the same server: Mailbox, Hub Transport, Client Access.

At the moment, we have a Coexistance with Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010.
All Mailboxes are already moved to the Exchange 2010. All incoming mail traffic comes through the receive connector from Exchange 2010, this works fine.
So, the last major task before we can uninstall the Exchange 2003 Server is the reconfiguration of the send connector.

The Exchange 2010 uses the same smarthost like the Exchange 2003 Server. It means, the firewall has all relevanted ports open.
Last Wednesday I created a new send connector on the Exchange 2010 and from the moment when the send connector was in place, all outgoing mail traffic was routed successfully through this connector.

The next day, troubles were here.
A lot of mails were in the queue with the following error:
421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to Connection Reset
It has nothing to do with the domains to which this emails are sent. Other mails to the same domains are working fine.
I would say, that 99 per cent of the outgoing emails are successfully transported. Only a few stayed in the queue over three days (35 mails).
Sometimes, a couple of this mails with the error 421 4.4.2... were sent after several hours and many tries.

The smarthost infrastructure is a McAfee Ironmail Appliance. As I said above, the 2003 Exchange Server never had problems sending mails through this smarthost. However, we will open a Service Call from McAfee. Maybe the problem is on the smarthost...
But I cannot rule out the Exchange 2010 Server. After we deleted the 2010 send connector and the outgoing mail traffic routed again through the Exchange 2003 send connector, all mails with this error 421 4.4.2... were successfully transported.
The fact is, that Exchange 2003 can route every mail successful to the smarthost and Exchange 2010 not.

Has anybody information or troubleshooting tipps for this situation?
If googled all the time, but I haven't found exactly the same situation or a recommended solution.

Thanks a lot for any reply.
Sorry about my english guys, it's not the best.

Regards
Pascal
