Exchange out of sync with Outlook Clients: Need to force Outlook to update Exchange

Our Exchange Server failed a week ago, and the backup did not contain appointments users had put after the Backup date.  So, now everyone's Calendars are out of sync.  People look at others' Calendars and see that they're free, but the user actually has an appointment in his/her Calendar.

I need to get Exchange updated as it's the component that's out of date--not Outlook.  Is there any way to force Outlook to update Exchange, ie, get Outlook to tell Exchange that its data is incorrect and that it needs to sync with Outlook and add any appointments that don't appear in Exchange?

Hope I've explained this well.

Thanks for any advice as to whether this is possible.
