Search folders don't migrate from Outlook/Exchange 2003 to Outlook/Exchange 2010?

Hello,

We migrated some users from Outlook 2003 on Exchange 2003 to Outlook 2010 on Exchange 2010.

The default Unread Mail search folder is behaving strangely.

Examples:

1. A user created the Unread Mail search folder in Outlook 2003, targeting his Inbox folder only. When the moved to Outlook 2010, the number of unread messages shown in brackets beside the search folder's name would not update. Also, when he opens (double-click) unread messages in the search folder, they do not change to read. If he opens them in the Inbox, they do change to read. The solution seems to be to to delete and recreate the search folder.

2. Another user created the Unread Mail search folder in Outlook 2010, again targeting the Inbox folder only. It works perfectly in Outlook 2010. However, in Outlook 2003, the folder is always empty "no items to show in this view" but the number of unread messages in brackets beside the search folder's name does show the correct number of unread messages.

My questions are:

A. Are there known issues with search folders when migrating to different versions of Outlook/Exchange?

B. Is the solution to delete and recreate them?

I have read the MS KB on troubleshooting search folders - not useful.

I'm posting this in both the Outlook and Exchange forums - sorry - because it's not clear where the problem is coming from.

Thanks,

- Alan.
