Exchange Certificate Issues

We are having an odd certificate issue.  If the end user is on the network or connected through the VPN they DON'T get a certificate error.  Once they are removed from the network or if you run a "Test E-mail AutoConfiguration" the users will receive a certificate error saying "The security certificate has expired or is not yet valid."  If you look at the cert you can see that it has expired.  The cert that has expired is a wild card cert from godaddy.  The thumb print associated with it doesn't appear to exist or be associated with any service anywhere on our our exchange environment any more.  I have checked the registry and ran Get-ExchangeCertificate on both CAS and Exchange server to verify.  Both CAS servers have been bound to a valid wild card cert from go daddy so i'm not sure why our end users are still getting the error.

A little background about our exchange environment.  We are running Exchange 2007 SP 2 and Exchange 2010 SP 3 simultaneously.  We have separate 2007 and 2010 CAS servers.  The only mailboxes hosted on the 2010 exchange server are archived mailboxes. The tech that build the 2010 CAS server has disabled the default website and created a separate website for all associated with sites (no idea why).   Any help would greatly appreciated.
