I have 2-Exchange 2010 servers in a DAG with CAS,HT and MB roles installed on each and behind a load balancer. The MAPI load balancing is working as expected but I have a few concerns/questions around the DAG itself. I have 2 NIC's in each server, one for LAN/Mapi traffic with DAG replication disabled, and the other on a different subnet with private IP's (100.100.100.101/102) and replication enabled.
When I created the DAG I gave it an IP on the LAN/MAPI interface (which i didnt publish to the load balancer) and it seems fine, however, the clustering component created an IP on each server similar to 169.254.1.x that reflects the failover cluster virtual adapter I believe.
The issue, when I look at my mail headers externally the virtual adapter IP (169.x.x.x) is what shows as the source server IP, not the real/routable IP of the originating server. The messages send just fine, I am just unsure if this is the expected behavior.
I would expect to see the IP of the source be the "resolveable" Ip of the source server where my Mb is located. can someone shed some light on this please?
