Routing Group Conector, specify custom SMTP server

Hey guys,

we have this slight problem with creating a routing group connector between exchange 2003 and exchange 2010.

Basically we want the communication between these 2 servers to flow on the separate network. Both servers have secondary network cards configured.

on 2003 we created additional Virtual SMTP server and bound it to secondary NIC

on 2010 we created additional SEND connector and bound it to secondary NIC

however for the love of microsoft we can't seem to change/set setting in the routing group connector to use anything but DEFAULT SMTP connector.

any assistance would be appreciated. may be we are walking here in a wrong direction and this need to be done different these days.
