Hello all,
A company I work with has an intermittent problem with their Exchange 2010 SP2 RU5v2 server which ends access from all RPC clients. The server has to be rebooted for the problem to clear up. The problem happens every 1 - 3 weeks. They have a physical Windows 2003 DC and one virtual Win 2k8 R2 DC (they also have four out-of-site DCs which the Exchange server notes in its 2080 messages but never seems to make use of when it can't contact the two in-site DCs).
The ADAccess events that come prior to the server freeze are 2070, 2110, 2114 and 2085 although not all of them always appear when the problem happens.
There is also event 4999 which happens too often for my liking. It comes in a few variations but the most frequent are these two:
Watson report about to be sent for process id: 2704, with parameters: E12, c-RTL-AMD64, 14.02.0328.009, M.E.RpcClientAccess.Service, M.E.Data.Directory, M.E.D.D.ConnectionPoolManager.GetConnection, M.E.D.Directory.ADTransientException, a29c, 14.02.0328.009.

From information on the web it seems like a possible way to solve this problem include installing a hotfix mentioned inKB939820. This doesn't seem immediately relevent but there seem to be some successes from people discussing it here:http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/134941-exchange-2010-ad-topology-failures-all-domain-controllers-unavailable?page=1
Another possible avenue is touted by this man: http://clintboessen.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/exchange-2010-randomly-loosing-access.html).
The company is not in a position to upgrade their 2003 DC immediately. I wonder if anyone can throw me a suggestion or two? Any further information will gladly be provided!
Many thanks
Brian
