What does the CAS Array object really do?

I've read Demystifying the CAS Array Object Part 1 & Part 2. It seems to me that the only thing the CAS Array object is for is to stamp the array name on to theRpcClientAccessServer attribute of newly created databases. Is that correct? If not what else does it do?
