We're running a single server installation of Exchange 2010 (around 1000 users). As part of a SAN acquisition project we wanted to get the IOPS of our Exchange server. We have Dell servers so we used their DellPack utility which monitors I/O activity for a period of time and then produces a report with a bunch of I/O related information. The resulting I/O activity surprised us (and Dell). We were expecting much heavier activity during business hours compared to the early morning hours, but the results show very little difference over the course of 24 hours. I've attached a screenshot of the IOPS graph that shows what I'm talking about. There's certainly lots more email arriving mid afternoon than during the early am hours, but the graph doesn't reflect this. The only major peak that we see is during the backup period shortly after midnight.
Is this typical behaviour or does this show some kind of problem? Performance on the server is good and there are no obvious issues.
