In our production environment, we have a 2 cas/hub servers and 2 mailbox servers, all are Exchange 2010. The mailbox servers are in a DAG and the cas/hub servers were setup as the FSWs (one was the witness server and the other was the alternate). Our Exchange Administrator moved two of the servers into a test environment for some testing. I'm not sure if he ever got them working, but he is no longer with the company and I (not an exchange admin) am filling in until he is replaced. From what I can tell, 1 cas/hub server (the alternate witness server) and 1 mailbox server were moved into the environment. Obviously things are not working, but I'm not sure exactly what to do. I've forced the alternate witness server to be the primary witness server. I've forced a removal of the mailbox server that was left behind so the DAG now consists only of the other mailbox server. I can't get into the Failover Cluster Manager as it is looking for the other Witness server. I'm unable to mount the databases. I get "Failed to determine the mount status of the acgtive database copy". I've tried forcing the mount, but it still fails. I would prefer not to "drop in" new copies of the server into the environment, but I will not rule it out if it will make things work. Thoughts?
