Hub transport server role install error

I am trying to install exchange server 2010 on a windows 2008 x64 machine. While installing hub transport or mailbox server role it fails with error

Error:
The following error was generated when  The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
      install-ContentIndexingService -HubOnlyFilterRegistration
    " was run: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object.".

I have tried installing on Windows server 2008 R2 OS also but it still fails with the same error.
