I'm hoping someone can help me here with an issue I have with restarting our FSW. First off we have 2 Exchange server 2010's all roles with a FSW on a file server all in one site. All of the servers in question are server 2008 R2 SP1. Every once in a while when the FSW has to be restarted I will lose connectivity to one of the exchange servers until I restart one of the Exchange servers. I noticed this only seems to happen when the Current Host Server switches from one exchange server to the other in the Failover Cluster Manager. My question is there any way to prevent the Current host Server from switching while the FSW is restarting.
Example: EXCH1 is current host server in failover cluster manager. I restart the FSW and the CHS switches to EXCH2 I am then unable to ping or access EXCH1. I watch the cluster service come back up and everything reports ok but I am still unable to ping EXCH1 until restarting EXCH1 or EXCH2.
We are not load balanced and all clients are pointing at EXCH1 so clients are unable to connect during this time.
This does not happen if I restart the FSW and the CHS remains the same. One other thing I have noticed is that the DAG is working just fine during this time and I am able to access the EXCH1 from EXCH2 so when I need to restart an Exchange server I restart the one that has the database copy on it.
