We have migrated to another mail platform and have uninstalled the first of two Exchange servers (Exchange 2010 SP1) in our organization which held the hub transport and CAS roles. We are about to uninstall the 2nd Exchange server which is the mailbox server using the Add/Remove programs control panel applet.
I am concerned about unintended consequences. Can someone reassure me that by uninstalling the mailbox server in this manner it will not result in removing user mailboxes and simultaneously deleting the associated Active Directory user accounts? This would be catastrophic in our environment.
For example, before uninstalling the maibox server do I have to disable all of the user mailboxes? My understanding is disabling the mailboxes removes the Exchange properties from the AD user accounts without deleting them.
