Hi everyone,
I currently have 2 active Exchange 2010 SP2 RU 4 servers (MB, CAS and HUB) and they are both part of a DAG. Each server has 5 active databases on them and the other servers passive databases. They are both located in the same AD site and they are VM's on 2 different ESXi 5.0 host with 8GB fibre channel SAN as storage.
Also i have only 1 NIC configured for both servers.
I would like to ask your opinion if i should install a third Exchange server only with the mailbox role on it and then put all passive databases over to that third server. Important to note that I would install it in same AD site.
So why this question?
Due to poor planning, I had to make do with 2 x RAID 5 LUNS each with 6 disk of 10K SAS disk. this RAID5 (one for each server) contain databases and log files for all 5 active databases and all 5 passive databases on each server.
I am starting to see in the event viewer that the database avg latency for read/write is getting a big too high. but the ESXi host show no signs of performance issue. so i wanted to do 2 things.
1. Move away the passive databases to a third server to free up some resources on the 2 active ones.
2. Purchase more disk for our SAN and make more RAID1 groups. 1 x RAID 1 for each DB+LOG
any advise?
