Delete the contents of a Users Deleted Items and Purge folder?

We are having issues migrating a user to the O365 cloud and found it is due to the contents in the Recoverable Items as well as contents in their Deleted Items folder. Apparently there are multiple 25MB+ attachments and corrupted emails. 

I ran the following to clear the dumpster, 

Search-Mailbox -Identity 'Mailbox' -SearchDumpsterOnly -DeleteContent 

Then ran this to see how it looked;

The user still has about 30 GB of emails in the deleted items. When trying to delete them in Outlook 2013, a message pops up saying it cannot be done as some of the items are no longer found or may have been moved. 

Is there a way to force deletion on the Deleted Items folder via powershell? (Ive also tried the "empty deleted items folder upon exit")

Search in mailbox from some clients Simultaneously

Hi. 

We have a rare configuration in our environment that we would like to know what can be the best way to achive a proper solution that is supported.

Exchange Server: 2010 SP3 RU5
Office Client: 2010 SP2 x86
Windows: Enterprise SP1 x86
Cached Mode: Disabled, as the computers are in solid state mode and reset every restart. therefore we cannot enable it

we have one department (20-30 users) that each user has it's own mailbox + same shared mailbox for all of the department.
the mailbox is used to store important mails that should be available for all those users (we use a mailbox and not a public folders mainly because of historical reasons and backup reasons)
The size of the shared mailbox is 40-50GB

What we've noticed is when a user try to search something in the shared mailbox, other users can't perform search at the same time. what happens is:
When we try to search in a subfolder it get stuck on "Searching" and no results are being show.
When we try to search on the root folder and then press "Find more on the server" we see the results.
in some cases accessing the shared mailbox while someone else searches, causes the outlook to become "Not responding" for a while.

Search options and Outlook options are similar in all the clients as the user profiles are being recreated any login (they get deleted on logoff)

  • Is there a limitation for working simultaneously on the same mailbox from many clients?
  • We know there's a recommendation about OST to be less than 20GBs. is there any recommendation for a mailbox on the server? from what we know we didn't do anything that should be unsupported.
    We don't want to split the shared mailbox because it will make the search harder for the users.
    Activate archiving also doesn't seems like a proper solution as it is on a slower storage than the mailbox itself, so I'm skeptical if it will make the search from many computers better...
    Does a public folder acts differently?
  • As we mentioned, we cannot use Cached mode on this case. is there something we can do on the client side maybe?

Exchange 2010 , ARR, Outlook Anywhere

I am trying to use ARR v3.0 on Server 2012-R2 to publish Exchange OWA,EWS etc
The server has 1 x NIC and sits in the companies DMZ.

Everything is working EXCEPT Outlook Anywhere.
Outlook Anywhere is working correctly internally

Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyser reports an RPC Ping failure, everything else is fine.
"Attempting to ping RPC endpoint 6001 ( Exchange Information Store )

" The attempt to ping the endpoint failed An RPC error was thrown by the RPC Runtime process. Error 1818
RPCPing from the ARR box fails, RPCping from an internal server is OK ( 6001 )
I was hoping for a little insight into this issue, any advice gladly taken.


Remote Outlook client reports a logon error when trying to connect, auto discover is working correctly.

Disable AD accounts and remove mail after x days

Hi,

I am trying to write a script that will do 2 things.

1 disable AD accounts that have not logged in for x days and then delete all mail in any mailboxes that have not been logged in for x days.

I have found the commands to do it one at a time etc but I want to be able to use powershell hopefully to disable the accounts then create a file of mailboxes to be cleared and then have powershell run the search-mailbox command -deletecontent on each mailbox in the file.

Any help greatly appreciated.

E14 - Will Exchange find Domain Controller in different child domain ?

Hi all 

I've two AD sites Site-A & Site-B. And One forest with one root and two child domains child-1 & child-2. 

Now E14 works well in child-1@Site-A. 

Now we need to add new E14 servers with domain child-1 but these servers will located on Site B. 

My question is can E14B.Child-1.root.com use the specific domain controller  AD01 & AD02.Child-2.root.com? or We need to install additional domain controller use the same domain with Exchange ?

Federation Trust Free/Busy not showing on-premise

Hi,

I have two separate on-premise Exchange Server 2010sp3 trying to do calendar sharing.  The federation trust and organization relationship was successfully setup.  The calendars on both sides open but no information is displayed. 

I'm getting an error message on my Exchange Server that I can't figure out how to resolve.  WSSecurityauthentication is set to true at autodiscovervirtualdirectory and webservicesvirtualdirectory.  test-organizationrelationship didn't respond with any errors.  I believe this error is causing free/busy info not to show on the calendar.

. Name of the server where exception originated: CAS. Make sure that the Active Directory site/forest that contain the user's mailbox has at least one local Exchange 2010 server running the Availability service. Turn up logging for the Availability service and test basic network connectivity.

Multi-tenant GAL creation - only shows current user

Hi,

We have a parent domain and a couple of sub domains setup and want to segregate the GAL's into relevant domain units.  I have created a GAL for each of the sub-domains which correctly show the users in those domains, but I also need a new GAL for the parent domain.

When this is created and I assign it to myself through an Address Book Policy, I only see myself as a recipient in the assigned GAL.  If I assign the default GAL, I see all users across all domains and groups.

I used the following command to create the GAL:

New-GlobalAddressList -Name "Domain GAL" -RecipientContainer "domain.local/MyBusiness/Users" -RecipientFilter {(Alias -ne $null)}

I'm trying to open

https://owa.domain.com/public, but I recieve an error:


Server Error in '/' Application.


Runtime Error

Description:
An exception occurred while processing your request. Additionally, another
exception occurred while executing the custom error page for the first
exception. The request has been terminated.

Don't know how to fix it. Please advise.

Windows 2008 r2 windows installer issue error 1719 when install Backup exec 12.5

Hi all

After a epic weekend of rebuilding our exchange server I have tried to reinstall Backup exec 12.5 64bit, this was installed with no issues during the last build, however at the end of this build I went to reinstall Backup Exec 12.5 and it is failing with error 1719 Windows installer issue.

I have looked on many sites and tried many things non of them have worked, has anyone managed to resolve this issue.

Content Index State Failed - Exchange 2010 2 Node Dag

Hello,

Last night I needed to restart one of my Exchange 2010 DAG nodes.  I moved all Active Database copies of this node to the other node in the DAG.  I then restarted the node with no Active Database copies.  When the server came back up I moved the Active Database copies back onto the node that they were initially on.  The node that I restarted now shows the ContentIndexState of all Databases as "Failed".  Test-replicationhealth gives the following results:

How to remove internal hostname, domain, and ip from SMTP headers

I've read some posts regarding this "issue" some people defend that the internal ip should be on host header (and they say it's a "must" by RFC).

I think the internal hostname.domain.local and ip address should not be sent to the public.

What i need to know is how to remove this information, can someone help?

Error message on Delay Delivery

Hello my chamelle,

One user received an email from the server that a message has been delayed but this email also contains the name of every transport rules that exist in the organization.

Exchange Edge 2010 content filtering "This attachment was removed"

I have this dilemma with exchange edge 2010 in our environment. Every time there is a spam email that is stripped by edge content filtering, the stripped email get delivered to user with "This attachment was removed." along with content of the email.

Is there way to disable that notification or delivery to user?

Unable to install Mailbox Role - Prepared AD, have CAS and HT servers installed

Please help me determine why I can't install the Mailbox Role on my final server, I've prepared the domain and schema and I have installed CAS and HT roles on 2 other servers already.  I've tried deleting the Federated mailbox and the 2 System mailboxes that are generated during preparation and tried recreating them, nothing seems to be working.  I'd post the log, but it is about 20mb of text and my browser keeps crashing.

Taking passive mailbox copy offline

Hi All, I have 2 mailbox servers in a DAG; currently all databases are on MBX1 with MBX2 being the passive copy. I need to take MBX2 offline for hardware maintenance. Obviously I will do this out of hours to avoid any issue (should my main MBX server decide to give in at this time). Should I be aware of any issues with taking this server offline? Note there are no mail databases on this server but I’m just wondering if it will throw up errors to say it cannot find the passive copy or will this be rectified once the server is brought back online? Essentially is there any extra configuration I need to carry out before and after taking the passive copy offline? Does it need to be re-added to the DAG?

Exchange Control Panel Access Denied

Hi!  We're running Exchange 2010.  From the server console I can access ECP no problem.  If I try it from a workstation (logged in as the domain administrator) I just get Access Denied.  What do I need to change in the Exchange IIS to get me in?

MS Exchange Information Store cannot start

Hi all,

Exchange Server 2010 information store cannot start, other exchange server services are running.

it gives;

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.

There is no antivirus on the server.
