Hello, all. I've inherited a pickle and I could use some input. A client has a Hyper-V server connected to a SAN, on which sits/sat several virtual machines. One of the disk groups went bad on the SAN and corrupted the Exchange 2007 VM beyond any viability. We also discovered their backups of the VMs have not been working for at least a month, although they *do* have a backup of the Information Store.
We are still trying to recover data off the SAN and do not have the disk space to build another server, so we found an older set of servers, patched them together into one workable server, and discovered the client had no record of their software or licenses. Additionally, because the the limited hardware available and the amount of space required by the old Exchange server, I am unable to get the disk configuration on the patched-together server to match the specs on the VM, so I can't do a setup /recoverserver even if I had the software. I tried to disable one mailbox in the hopes that I could force it back on and associated with the new database, but it completely dissappeared.
What I've done is to install Exchange 2010 on the (temporary) replacement server. At this point I can see all the old mailboxes from within the EMC, but I can neither move the mailboxes nor, because of the different versions, use Set-Mailbox with the -Database option.
The backups were done with Backup Exec 2010 and the servers are running Windows 2008 x64. Any advice on how I can get the Exchange 2007 email accounts away from the failed server and onto the new Exchange 2010 server would be greatly appreciated.
