activesync issues upgrading from 2003 to 2010

One of our engineers was in charge of upgrading from Exchange 2003 to 2010 when he abruptly decided to leave for another job. He had most of the deployment done, but I've been tasked to dive into his deployment and finish things up. It looks like I've got almost everything working with 1 exception: I can't access mobile email for an account that resides on the Exchange 2003 server.

For starters, instead of using mail.domain.com, the ex-engineer decided to use webmail.domain.com for the external address of our 2010 server. When I try to add a 2003 mailbox on my phone and point it to the address of the 2003 box it works fine. If I try to point it to the 2010 box I get an error saying the login failed.

I ran Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity for my mailbox (which is running on 2010) and a 2003 mailbox for comparitive purposes and get the following for 2003: [System.Net.WebException]: The remote server returned an error: (403)
Forbidden.

I've been searching online for a couple of days to try to figure out what's wrong. I won't bother listing everything I've checked, primarily because I'll do any troubleshooting help anyone can provide (even if I've done it before just to make sure I don't leave anything out).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
