I have a strected DAG that is active/passive. I don't really need load balancing just failover capabilities with the least amount of hassle.
Due to stretched site DatacenterActivationMode is set to DagOnly
site 1 - ex01 - 1.1.1.5 M/C/HT (active)
site 2 - ex02 - 1.1.2.5 M/C/HT (passive)
site 1 has witness and site 2 has alternate witness..permissions tested and work perfectly
site1Casarray - DNS cname to DBAG
site2casarray - DNS cname to DBAG (Don't really need right now but keep in there in case I want to an active/active in the future)
DBAG - 1.1.1.10 or 1.1.2.10 depending on cluster failover state - both subnets are listed in a single network and change the DNS entry accordingly. The DNS entry has a TTL of 5 minutes.
sitedb - Mailbox database loaded on ex01
Scenarios (to test each scenario I use "Move Active Mailbox Database" to move the databases and stop the cluster service to force a move for DBAG, all tests on outlook are conducted after verifying that the move(s) were successful) :
1. sitedb - Site 1
DBAG - Site 1
Everything works fine
2. sitedb - Site 2
DBAG - Site 1
Did not work until I edited the - AllowCrossSiteRpcClientAccess and made it true. Then it worked
3. sitedb - Site 2
DBAG - Site 2
Everything works fine
4. sitedb - Site 1
DBAG - Site 2
this is where it all falls apart. DBAG is pointing to 1.1.2.10 like it supposed to do. Outlook is pointing to site1casarray like it supposed to do. Outlook will not connect at all for some reason.
No exchange errors. The RPC logs show on the site 2 side that they are telling the outlook client that they do not have the DB and suggest going to site 1. the rpc logs on site 1 say that it was last mounted in site 2 and have no idea where they are currently mounted.
Outlook Exchange Connection Status connects to site1casarray via directory then just keeps flashing everything else...almost like a loop (side note I got that for scenario 2 until I made that change). Test email autoconfiguration works great too...
it also does not matter which site I try to connect from all gets the same problem.
research doesn't really help much..Can anybody see anythng glaring?
