Exchange 2010 database disk setup

Hi,

So I've inherited an Exchange 2010 SP1 setup. Its a physical server with a Raid1 for the OS/System, a Raid10 for the databases and a Raid1 for the logs. So far so good, couldn't be happier.

But the Raid10 disk has been cut into partitions, one for every mailbox database (5 in total), these have then been assigned a path (not a drive letter) to an NTFS folder via (windows disk management) on a very small partition on the same disk which is assigned the D: drive.

Is there any benefit to this setup? Such as I dont know, the Exchange maintenance tasks or general performance?

I am thinking of moving all the databases to a temporary disk, delete all these partition into one big partition on the original disk and just put the databases back. Main reason for this is some of the partitions are running low on space but some are almost empty.
