Orphaned archive mailbox

I have an archive mailbox which appears to have become 'orphaned' and lost its association with any primary mailbox. I need to remove this archive mailbox.

I have tried created a new primary mailbox, and associating that primary mailbox with the archive mailbox. However, when I remove the primary mailbox, the archive mailbox isn't removed. I created another primary mailbox & associated it with the archive mailbox. When I try to access the archive from OWA, I get a message "Your archive isn't available right now because it is being moved." It is not being moved, there are no move requests.

I tried changing the type of the primary mailbox to shared & back to regular, and then to room & back to regular.

I tried moving the primary & archive mailboxes to another DB, and that fails with a message "MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to read mailbox signature basic info. (hr=0x80004005, ec=2631)".

The only clue I have so far in that the mailbox statistics for the archive mailbox show it has an ObjectClass of "Mailbox, UserDisabled".

How can I clean this archive mailbox up?

I'm on Exchange 2010, SP1, RU3

Thanks, Jason
