Search folders don't migrate from Outlook/Exchange 2003 to Outlook/Exchange 2010?

$

Hello,

We migrated some users from Outlook 2003 on Exchange 2003 to Outlook 2010 on Exchange 2010.

The default Unread Mail search folder is behaving strangely.

Examples:

1. A user created the Unread Mail search folder in Outlook 2003, targeting his Inbox folder only. When the moved to Outlook 2010, the number of unread messages shown in brackets beside the search folder's name would not update. Also, when he opens (double-click) unread messages in the search folder, they do not change to read. If he opens them in the Inbox, they do change to read. The solution seems to be to to delete and recreate the search folder.

2. Another user created the Unread Mail search folder in Outlook 2010, again targeting the Inbox folder only. It works perfectly in Outlook 2010. However, in Outlook 2003, the folder is always empty "no items to show in this view" but the number of unread messages in brackets beside the search folder's name does show the correct number of unread messages.

My questions are:

A. Are there known issues with search folders when migrating to different versions of Outlook/Exchange?

B. Is the solution to delete and recreate them?

I have read the MS KB on troubleshooting search folders - not useful.

I'm posting this in both the Outlook and Exchange forums - sorry - because it's not clear where the problem is coming from.

Thanks,

- Alan.

Disable Automatic Forwarding/Replying to the Internet

 Hello,

In order to disable automatic Forwarding/Replying to the Internet, we are going to turn off Allow Automatic Replies/Forward on Hub Transport - Remote Domains - Default.

The question is: Does this setting block the email forwarding to external totally? Specifically, will it block the forwarding to external setup on the mailbox as well? (Mailbox Properties - Mail Flow Settings - Delivery Options - Forward to).

Basically, we want to disable email forwarding (Outlook level) companywide for security reason, but still want to allow the email forwarding external if it’s set up on the mailbox level.

Thanks,

Kevin

Exchange 2013 on win 2008 and win 2012

Hi,

I am planning to install Exchange 2013 in our Existing Exchange 2010 Sp3 environment.

Currently due to some of our infrastructure upgrades we are not able to install win 2012 OS.

I would like to go ahead right now with Win 2008 R2 and install Exchange 2013.

Later on I am going to install Win 2012 OS and Exchange 2013 on it. At that time I will move Exchange 2013 services and mailboxes from Win 2008 R2/Exchange 2013 to Win 2012/Exchange 2013.

I just wanted to confirm if any one sees any issue in it.

Thanks,

Raman

Hi guys, I'm having this problem for Weeks!!!, can't get the answer for this particulary case, I have a lab with Exchange Server 2010 SP2, I was testing the Mailbox Audit Feature, but, no matter how many times I try, is not gathering results, I had executed this following commands in the PS

1. Set-Mailbox user1 -AuditEnabled $True

2. Give FullAccess to the Administrator account, to manage the user1 mailbox audit logs.

3. Execute the Search-MailboxAuditLog, but no results.

4. Verify the ECP, but nothing!!

I have checked so many forums, blogs, a documentation about this, but can't find an effective solution.

Exchange 2010 VSS Backup Error

I am unable to backup my Exchange database with Retrospect. I am able to successfully backup the database with Windows Server backup. When I start the process I receive the following events in the event log:

1. Exchange VSS Writer (instance b6fd1f2b-d4f8-4379-8789-308d71ed6355) has prepared for backup successfully.

2. Information Store (4924) Shadow copy instance 18 starting. This will be a Full shadow copy.

3. Exchange VSS Writer (instance 18) has successfully prepared the database engine for a full or copy backup of database 'Mailbox Database 0910901174'.

4. Exchange VSS Writer (instance b6fd1f2b-d4f8-4379-8789-308d71ed6355:18) failed with error code -2147467259 when checking volume dependencies for storage group '6c4daad9-1ef6-4b01-abe0-f6258087011c' in preparation for backup.

5. Information Store (4924) Shadow copy instance 18 aborted.

6. Exchange VSS Writer (instance b6fd1f2b-d4f8-4379-8789-308d71ed6355:18) failed with error code 1006 when preparing for Snapshot.

Note that on the fourth event the details tabs shows: CVssIExchWriter:FCheckInstanceVolumeDependencies: Log file path is not affected by the snap..

I have added my backup account and the Network Service to the VSSAccessControl. I have also granted Network Services COM+ Local access and activation at the computer level to attempt to resolve a VSS 8194 error that I was previously receiving. The error details for that error were:

0x80070005, Access is denied.

Operation: Gathering Writer Data Context: Writer Class Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220} Writer Name: System Writer Writer Instance ID: {e4a8b0d4-a47f-4f4d-ac2c-e36404781f7e}

The access denied error is no longer happening but the backup is still unable to complete. I have granted the backup account administrator rights.

Any clues on how to proceed?

Exchange 2010: How to verify which CAS server Outlook is connected to in a CAS Array

Hi, I've been looking everywhere for a simple, quick method to verify which of my three CAS server within my CAS Array that a particular user is connected to.

Ideally, I would want to be able to verify on the Client end.   Does anyone have a quick method to do so?

Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2010 Offline Address Book Download

$

Hi All,

Strange problem that I can't seem to get to the bottom of.

On a couple of users, about 10/100, can't seem to download the Offline Address Book. When they do a manual Download Address Book through Send/Receive Group, the progress window will remain at about 5% and the status will show "Copying Offline Address Book Template File". If I leave the window, it will be the same for a couple of hours without erroring out.

We have a casarray set up, forced the ports to 59595 and 59596 for the address book as mentioned the guide. We are not doing SSL redirect on the Virtual Directory. Test-AutoConfiguration from Outlook returns the correct entries. Works for most users but not all.

On the users that do not work, I've tried deleting the users profile, deleting the Outlook Directory under AppData. Sometimes, magically (for a lack of a better word), if I check the Offline Address Book Directory a few days later, there are files there. If I then do a manual Download, same thing, the progress bar will be stuck.

Puzzling as I'm not quite sure what else to check.

All clients are on Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave K

Best way to detect forwarded messages to Outside recipients

$

I am looking for a way to ultimately prevent a user, or anyone inside of an organization, from forwarding emails to outside of the organization, if the message was routed internally.

Given this scenario,

UserA@company.com sends an email to UserB@company.com, and no other recipients.

I want to prevent UserB from forwarding this email to bob@outside.com, because it should be for internal use only.

Keep in mind, if UserA@company.com sends an email to UserB@company.com AND bob@outside.com, UserB should be able to forward the email.

Basically, if the email was originally internal only, this should not be able to be forwarded, however, I do not want to prevent an email from being forwarded when there is already an on-going conversation between an internal and external user.

---------

I am having difficulty with the logic for this issue. So far, what I have tried was creating two rules, This does not seem to work.

Rule 1,

Apply rule to messages

from users Inside the organization

and sent to users Inside the organization

apply Classification

Rule 2,

Apply rule to messages

sent to users Outside the organization

              and marked with Classification

and when the Subject field contains FW:

send Delivery not authorized, message refused to sender with5.7.1

Please advise the best way to go about this.

Please help - set-receiveconnector IP list from txt, to run every 10 minutes

$

I've created a batch file to run a Kix script to import a list of IP addresses that update every 10 minutes (allowing users of a group to relay email via 3rd party program), and it works manually, but if I run it via task scheduler, the variables don't copy over to the script, so I'm a little stumpted

The Batch File:
D:\smtpscript\KIX32.EXE D:\smtpscript\ipbatchupdate.kix
PowerShell.exe -command ". 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\RemoteExchange.ps1'; Connect-ExchangeServer -auto; Set-ReceiveConnector EXCH01\RelayByScript -RemoteIPRanges %xline%"

The Kix Script:
IF Open(1, "\\exch01\smtpscript\clients.txt") = 0
  "File open"?
  $rline = ReadLine(1)
  $Xline = ""
  WHILE @ERROR = 0
    "Line read  = " + $rline?
    $xline=$xline + $rline + ","
    $rline = ReadLine(1)
  LOOP?
  $xline=$xline + "10.46.20.213"
  Close(1)?
ENDIF?
  $xline?
  set "xline=$xline"?
exit?

So I found a PS script and it seems to read the addresses, but I get the error:
WARNING: The command completed successfully but no settings of 'EXCH01\RelayByScript' have been modified.

PS Script:
$listIP = Get-Content .\Clients.txt
foreach($ipAdd in $listIP)
{
    $hubRe = Get-ReceiveConnector EXCH01\RelayByScript
    $hubRe.RemoteIPRanges += $ipAdd
    $hubRe | Set-ReceiveConnector
}

Any ideas?

Custom PS for mailbox move-request operation

$

Hello all,

With this ps

$mbxs = Get-Mailbox -database “User-AZ” | select -first 100

$dbs = “User-AZ-1″,”User-AZ-2″,”User-AZ-3″

foreach ($n in 0..($mbxs.count -1)){

New-MoveRequest $mbxs[$n] -TargetDatabase $dbs[($n%3)] -BadItemLimit ’10′ }

i can select a specific database and move some of mailbox to others ( somehow disseminating)

In addition to this I need a more custom ps as written below.

-scan all mailbox databases for mailbox counts

-If a mailbox database has more than 100 mailboxes (for example 122 mailboxes), move first 22 to another suitable mailbox database ( in my environment --> a suitable database is a regular database which contains less than 100 mailboxes )

Thank you for you further assistance.

regards.

Hello,

On Exchange 2010 SP2 RU6 we are using following cmdlet to edit safe senders list, it works well but after a while users' safe sender lists are reverting to previous state.

get-Mailbox | Set-MailboxJunkEmailConfiguration -TrustedSendersAndDomains @{Add='address@domain1.com','domain2.com'}

Do you have any idea about this issue?

Block delivery reports from inside organization

$

Hi guys,

When somebody from inside of my organization sends an email to group@domain.com, I have to send a copy of that email to admin@domain.com.This copy should be hidden, so nobody can know about it.

I successfully did it through a transport rule, by adding BCC to admin@domain.com. BUT when somebody sends an email asking for "Delivery Report", he gets 2 reports, one from the original address, and another from admin@domain.com.

I'm not asking about the "Read notification" (which I've already blocked with a transport rule, filtering by message type).

Looking for it at forums, I've readed about removing the headers X-Confirm-Reading-To, Disposition-Notification-To, etc. but it is not working for me. GPO to disable that option in outlook is not an option too.

I was looking to block it from a rule that filters for the from address and for the subject "Delivered:", but the from address is MicrosoftExchange[ID]@domain.com, which I can't filter from, and can't add as contact to filter too.

Unchecking the "Allow delivery reports" from Organization > Remote domains also doesn't work because I need to filter the emails from inside the organization.

Thanks for your answers.
