Security Group disappears from Delegates when hidden from address book

$

Hello.

We currently use Exchange 2010 and setup shared/generic mailboxes, then grant access via membership of a security group. Normally this is added to the mailbox manually, assigning permissions to the default folders, and send on behalf rights. We then hide the security group from the address book, and all is fine - we can still see the SG listed under the mailbox delegates options.

We are now attempting to do the same system using Powershell, and have assigned the mailbox/folder permissions to the SG, and used the set-mailbox -GrantSendOnBehalfTo command to assign rights.

This all seems to work, until we hide the SG from the address book, it then seems to disappear from the mailbox delegates options - so there must be some difference creating manually vs powershell ?

Any advise/help appreciated.

Can't create new Note in OWA

"ExchangeUserAccountControl" parameter

Ive seen another thread on this parameter, and from my testing the answer does not seem correct. What I would like to know is where does (get-mailbox $user | select ExchangeUserAccountControl) get it's value from.

The other thread indicates that it is from disabling the AD user object, but in my testing, this does not appear to be the case. any insight to this would be appreciated.

IE10 on Win7 and OWA 2010 can't drag and drop

I've upgraded to IE10 for win7.  When I login to OWA for exchange 2010, I notice I can't drag and drop emails into any folders.  Compatibility mode doesn't work either.  The only way for it to work is to go into developer mode and force "Document Mode" to "IE 9 standards".

How do we post bugs for the exchange team to fix?  I'm sure they have to update the OWA code to fix this.

Exchange Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTPS)

Hi,

My environment is using Windows 7 with outlook 2010 client while the backend is using Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010.

Am confused which version of TLS that Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTPS) is using when configured as the Exchange communication  between the client and the backend server.

From the following links, apparently TLS supports many forms of Cipher Suites dependant on the version used.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa374757%28v=VS.85%29.aspx

http://technet.microsoft.com/cs-cz/library/dd560644%28WS.10%29.aspx

Would it be possible for me to choose a specific Cipher suite when TLS is enabled on Exchange communication?

Any Security/Exchange gurus can help to shed some light on the above?

Thanks.

Cannot access EMC on one server

I'm sorry if I missed this in another post.

We are upgrading from Ex2007 to Ex2010. We have one 2010 CAS/Hub server and one 2010 Mailbox server. On the hub server I've lost the ability to launch the Exchange Management Console on the cas/hub server, Exchange Management Shell works normally. On the mailbox server I am able to launch both normally.

When I attempt to launch the EMC I get an error box that say; Processing data from remote server failed with the following error message: Access is denied. For more information, see about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

I'm not sure how the same account can have access on one machine and not the other.

Moving 2003 to 2010 - Do I have to take Public Folders?

$

0

Hey all,

I am getting ready to transition from Exchange 2003 to 2010. My organization has never used Public Folders other than whatever Exchange needed (and created) for itself. The folders I see on the 2003 server are:

default
eventconfig
exchangev1
globalevents
internal
microsoft
OAB Version 2,3a,4
offline Address Book
Organisation(409)
OWAScratchPad
Schedule+FreeBusy
schema-root
StoreEvents

I have only Outlook 2010, OWA, and ActiveSync users. I think I am reading that Exchange 2010 wouldn't necessarily need any public folders to do everything it normally does. Is there an easy enough method to not bring over any public folders and let them all die out of existence when the 2003 box is decomissioned?

Of course I need people to still be able to have meeting request functionality so somewhow free/busy information needs to exist. Will it just recreate itself in the more native 2010 style if the 2003 public folder is not brought over?

And of course, I assume the OAB needs to exist somewhere. Will 2010 create what it needs for itself if the old public folders are not brought over?

What other functions do I need to think about? Will they take care of themselves? I am trying to figure out any impact on end-users (about 2,000 of them) if I were to drop public folders. I am also trying to figure out what specific steps I need to take to make everything happen smoothly when I move from my single Exchange 2003 server to my new single Exhcange 2010 SP3 server as regard public folders (I haven't found any write ups on this manuever, so my guess is it must be an uncommon move or there must be something wrong with the idea).

Any help, answers, or guidance to good resources would be much appreciated.

RAID & LUN design for Multi-Role server

$

Hello All,

I'm having a bit of difficulty trying to come up with a suitable Mailbox design for our new Exchange 2010 server.

The server will be Multi Role with near on 900+ users moving across from Exchange 2007 with now HA or DAG.

The current available disks are 4 x 7.2K RPM SAS 3.5"

The three options I was looking at was as follows:

4 x Disks at RAID 5 then one LUN for 4 x Databases and one LUN for Log files

or having

2 x Disks RAID 1  for one LUN for 4x  Databases

2 x Disks RAID 1  for one LUN for Log files

Or finally

Having tried to use the Exchange Mailbox Calculator;

Buying 2 more disks then having the current 4 as RAID1 for 4x databases each on there own LUN then 2 new disks for Log files.

The following are my user criteria:

157 x with 1.5GB mailboxes

105 x with 750Mb mailboxes

717 x with 100Mb mailboxes

All averaging 50 x 75k messages per day

Many Thanks

Exchange 2010 Public Folder Issue with Outlook 2013

$

Hello, bit of a story to this one. We're in the middle of an Exch 2003 to 2010 migration and have rehomed the public folders to both of the new 2010 servers (server1 & server2)and they appear to be replicating. One 2003 box is shut down, the other is up but empty of mailboxes and PF.

My admin colleagues are testing Outlook 2013, those on Server1 can view public folders and organisational forms as expected, those on Server2 can't get view either. When clicking PF an error message says "the administrator has block access for this version of the client". Outlook 2010 works fine.

I've ran get-rpcclientaccess for both servers and nothing is blocked

I'm worried Server2 had a problem, when I created the PF Database I received an error message (can't remember exactly something unable to create mailbox) but the MS guide I followed said go back and address, when I retried after making no changes it worked (seems to happen with shell commands).

Any advice on where to troubleshoot next? I read that re-mounting the PF DB with the issue could sort it out, could this backfire?

EDIT: I've released that the Default Public Folder Locatio for Server2 is pointing to a 2003 box. Should the 2010 serers have the default location as themselves?

Outlook Prompting for Password Repeatedly After Migration

$

I've found many threads similar to our problem, but none that seem exactly the same.

Several of my Exchange users are prompted for passwords by Outlook while it is running. If they cancel, Outlook goes offline with "Password Required." If you click it, Outlook reconnects. If you try and enter network credentials, they are rejected.

This began after I migrated users from O365 to on-premise Exchange. I've created new Outlook profiles and not all users have this issue. We still use O365 for FOPE. I have a suspicion that the credentials prompt is not for Exchange but for O365. I cannot confirm, but I believe that it may be users whose passwords did not match as ADSync wasn't pushing passwords.

I would like to get these users back to normal. I wiped Office from someone's computer completely, deleted registry and folders, rebooted, reinstalled and the same problem occurred.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Which antivirus client? General advice needed

$

Hi,

I need server antivirus software for my Exchange 2010, DC and TMG servers (all 2008 R2). I'm not fussed by AV\message hygiene solution as my configuration is as follows:

Hardware firewall-->Edge Transport-->TMG--> Exchange

The hardware firewall does some AV, the Edge Transport has Forefront Protection for Exchange and the TMG does some basic smtp filtering. I'm really after some basic server antivirus software that will offer some protection against general virus risks (i.e. an admin hitting an infected page after Googling Exchange errors on a production server).

I had a look at Forefront, but couldn't find the correct product (unless I'm mistaken I believe System Center 2012 End Point Protection has replaced it).

Please advise what I can use for general server side antivirus (if there's a free equivalent to Ms Security Essentials that would be great!)

Thanks

Archive Quota limits vs Archive DB limits

$

We are looking at using the online archive function offered in Exchange 2010 sp1, and in testing it we noticed you can set quotas (like normal) on the Database for warning, prohibit send, and Prohibit send and receive. Then over on the person's mailbox under "Mailbox Settings", "Archive Quota" you can set Archive Quota (MB), and Issue Warning at (MB). There are no checkboxes to disable these like the one on the DB. What is the difference between these two? Should I set the limits at the DB level, and blank out the mailbox quota? I guess I am a little confused.

Hey guys,

like the title says, yesterday i tried to upgrade our exchange 2010 with sp1, but kept getting an error at the mailbox section. I beleive it has something to do with a "system mailbox" or the DB.

Here is the end of the error log, i can post the entire log if needed:

Hello everyone

Thank you,

Error with get-mailboxfolderstatistics after installing EX 2010 SP2 Rollup 5 v2

We have Exchange 2010 servers.  We also have a server that we have a bunch of scripts running on scheduled tasks.  After upgrading the Exchange servers to SP2 Rollup 5 v2, and then upgrading the server with the scripts to the same version, our scripts have started failing.

One simple example is the get-mailboxfolderstatistics cmdlet.  It runs just fine on the Exchange server without error, but when the command is run on the server with the scripts, it results in the following error:

PS C:\psscripts> get-mailboxfolderstatistics jsmith
WARNING: An unexpected error has occurred and a Watson dump is being generated: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
Get-MailboxFolderStatistics : Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
At line:1 char:28+ get-mailboxfolderstatistics <<<< jsmith+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Get-MailboxFolderStatistics], InvalidOperationException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.InvalidOperationException,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Tasks.GetMailboxFolderStatistics

Any ideas?  Really need to get these scripts running again.

TIA

Jim
