Outlook lost connection when load balanced CAS array name was moved to different AD site and data centre

$

At the weekend our F5 load balanced CAS array name was moved to our 3rd datacentre and all users lost access to Outlook.  The databases were running on DAG2 listed below at the time.

We have 3 DAG servers configured as the following:

DAG SERVER ONE (DAG1) | Datacentre 1 | Primary AD Site | Multi role server MBX, CAS, HT

DAG SERVER TWO (DAG2)  | Datacentre 2 | Primary AD Site | Multi role server MBX, CAS, HT

DAG SERVER THREE (DAG3) | Datacentre 3 | Secondary AD Site | Multi role server MBX, CAS, HT

We primarlily run from DAG1 or DAG2 - DAG3 is for real DR and loss of Datacentre 1 and 2.  The CAS array "Outlook" is configured for the primary AD site load balanced across DAG1 and DAG2.

We use an F5 load balancer that balances the connections across DAG1 and DAG2, if both fail then DAG3 is used automatically.   We have tested and it works fine simulating loosing DAG1 and DAG2 and bringing up as a 1 node cluster on DAG3 with a FSW and the load balancer pointing at DAG3 for Outlook connections.

For some reason this stopped Outlook users connecting - can anyone advise me why as I have been asked to test this again and I was expecting it to work?

Veeam backing up a passive DAG member with an active Public Folder DB on it.?

Hi, Anyone here using VEEAM 7 to backup exchange 2010 sp2 (yes.. I know)?

We have a DAG with two nodes. They are VMware machines. We are having issues with the backups. Specifically getting many many vss writer timeouts when snapshoting the machine and because the VSS is in a failed state it does not appear to be truncating the transaction logs. I have talk to veeeam extensively and they feel it is an MS issue..

What i have noticed is that the VSS fails when freezing the pub folder store. It freezes, generates the shadow copy.. releases the shadowcopy and then say copy aborted

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Out of Office Broken after Exchange 2003 to 2010 Migration

I moved a domain of ours from Ex 2003 to 2010 this past weekend. Users who set their OOF before the move still have it set. But when users try to set it now, they get an error saying: "Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later"

The server is up and people are sending emails. This is the only issue that I have been informed of.

Also getting SSL errors stating the internal FQDN of the new mail server was issued by a company that isn't trusted?

"One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server"

Uninstalling the last (only) Exchange server from a domain at the end of a migration to 2010. I have followed all the steps of things to remove (RUS/PFs/routing-groups/connectors/etc.) I have deleted the pub and priv information stores as well. But when I choose remove on the exchange setup I am getting the message about there being mailboxes on the server. I find that quite odd since there are no stores whatsoever left although I do have the EDB files physically on the disk still. I have restarted the services, even rebooted. I waited 24 hours for AD to learn/replicate about this. I have read the technet articlehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/924170, and found no results indicating a mailbox on anything other than the 2010 server. I tried creating a new private store and removing the system mailbox and trying again...same error.

I am assuming this is going to require ADSIEdit, but I'm not going to experiment with that (!) and even searching for users with information about the old server failed I would not know what to look for. Please help, I want this machine turned off and removed from the datacenter, but have read that it MUST be uninstalled gracefully to remove attributes from AD so I'm stuck.

Exchange OAB Not Syncing

I am running Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2013. Recently, any updates made to the GAL will not sync with Outlook in Cached mode. Because of this, users using Outlook 2013 in cached mode do not see the updates made to the GAL. Clients that do not use cached mode can see the changes as well as clients that use the outlook web app. About a week before this issue started I performed a HTTP redirect procedure as outlined in the following article: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/the-enterprise-cloud/exchange-2010-how-to-redirect-non-ssl-outlook-web-app-traffic-to-ssl/ I recently undid all of the changes I made by following that article and am still experiencing the same issues. I have followed advice from many other forums. Some of these recommendations include forcing updates via powershell and editing HTTP redirect settings in various places in the IIS Manager. All services are running and have not crashed. Any help would be appreciated.

Exchange using source port 25

I have been asked to close all unneeded outgoing ports on our firewall. After adding all the port I could think of I started monitoring outbound traffic still not hitting an ACL. I have started noticing that several times a day Exchange would make a connection using source port 25. We have a email encryption device in our DMZ and Exchange sends all outgoing mail to it. I understand the outgoing destination port 25 connections as it makes bunches of those but what is up with the Exchange server making 15 -30 connections a day using port 25 as its source. By the way, probably doesn't matter but the server has Forefront for Exchange running on it also.

Hello Everyone,

I have recently configured my exchange 2010 server on win server2008. I am unable to use outlook anywhere utility in same network & also different network. I always have to go by my server IP address to get access to my exchange 2010 login page. On internal I can use my https://servername.domain.com/owa address to access but for external network I have to use https://ipaddress/owa.

Also I have configured owa for external & internal at my exchange server.

I am also not able to receive mails from external domain.

Please give a support/solution for the same.

Anil

Mailbox Import Export Role Entries & Parameters

Can anyone reply with the results to Get-ManagementRoleEntry ‘Mailbox Import Export\*’

In a format where all the parameters are shown. Or a link to a .csv. Whatever.

I'm troubleshooting an issue here and I want to compare my Mailbox Import Export role to a default one which has been unmodified. I'm thinking my role has had some entries and/or Parameters removed.

Thanks

"Database unsearchable" errors in SCOM

Hi All,

I'm getting the "Database unsearchable" SCOM alert on a daily basis for each of my 10 MDBs.  I've followed the steps in
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123701%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx to diagnose the issue and find that everything is healthy.  The test-exchangesearch cmdlt returns results and no errors for all MDBs.  Is the only was to prevent this error from occurring to reseed the indexes?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated...
Thanks!

Export results to a CSV, if / else conditionals...

I know there are a hundred threads all about the same as this, but I'm not particularly good at scripting and I just can't make anything work.

I saw that if I use a Foreach-Object that I can do a bulk export of all results, but I couldn't make that work.

I also can't use the -Append switch because I must be using PS 2.0.

I reverted to my old code, because at least it works.

Can anyone help me get the results of this into a csv?

$SystemMailboxes = Import-Csv "c:\SystemMailboxes.csv"
foreach ($line in $SystemMailboxes) {
    if ($line.ObjectClass -eq "MsExchSystemMailbox") {
        Get-ADObject $line.ObjectGUID -Properties * | select name, homeMDB, objectGUID, distinguishedname }
    else { Get-ADUser $line.DistinguishedName -Properties * | select name, homeMDB, objectGUID, distinguishedname }
    }

EMC Permissions Gone Part Deux

I noticed that someone on the forums has this exact same issue I'm having this very moment.  Unfortunately the fix that was given wasn't a fix that did me anygood.  So I'm reopening this and hoping David Strome or someone has an answer for me as I'm about to pull my hair out.

My situation, we are in the need of upgrading our aging Group Wise server and we are considering going to Exchange.  So we setup a test environment on a server we were going to use as the new mail server.  It's running Windows Server 2008 R2 in a Hyper-V setup, it's connected to our domain and our domain has no other previous Exchange servers.  After installing it with no errors and loading up the EMC I get a "You don't have sufficent permissions to view this data" under Orginization Configuration.  I've also tried several cmdlets to check the roles and I'm told they don't exist.  I've checked the Role Groups in Active Directory Users and I'm using the account I installed the Exchange Server on and still no go and I'm at a complete loss.

In the forum I read titled "EMC Permissions gone" I tried David's solution and nothing worked still.  Please help.

Unable to edit Distribution Group membership via Outlook (works via ECP).

SITUATION: I am attempting to enable the ability for specified users to edit the membership of Exchange 2010 distribution groups via Outlook 2010.  I have configured permissions via RBAC for them to be able to do this by following the instructions and running the script found here:

http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/11/18/453251.aspx

After running the script, users specified as group managers are able to edit group membership through the ECP.  But when they attempt to do so via Outlook, they receive the same message that they would see if the permission to edit group membership was not enabled:

"Changes to the public group membership cannot be saved.  You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object."

QUESTION:  Does anyone have any idea as to why we are still unable to edit group membership via Outlook, when all the permissions appear to be enabled doing so?

Cannot open your default email folders. Outlook cannot start because a data file to send and receive messages cannot be found

Hi,

I'm running Microsoft outlook 2010 on Windows 7 and i can't get outlook to open because when i open it, halfway through loading it, it says :

"Cannot open your default email folders. Outlook cannot start because a data file to send and receive messages cannot be found. Check your settings in this Microsoft outlook profile. In Microsoft Windows, click the start button, and then click control panel. Click user accounts and then click and then click mail. Click show profiles, select this profile, and then click properties.

I've searched online to try and solve this and the common answer it so uncheck the compatibility box in properties, but mine is already unchecked. I've tried checking it and unchecking it and it still doesn't work.

There have been other answers but my IT knowledge is extremely limited  and i don't want to risk making things worse. If anybody has an answer I'd be extremely grateful to see it! I'm hoping this'll be quite simple so that i can do this myself!

Thanks

Transport Rules from field has to be different except for 4 domains.

Hello,

Environment: Exchange 2010 SP3 with Outlook 2010 SP1. We also have Exchange 2010 sp3 as an edge.

Scenario:

1 shared email account with Primary SMTP outages@domain.com. Many internal users have 'full access' and 'send as' on this mailbox.

We need the following:

  1. Internal users will send from this mailbox to other internal users and the from Field should be:outages@domain.com (no problem as it is set up as the Primary reply to Address in Exchange).
  2. Internal users will send from this mailbox to some partners externally (4 domains in total) and the FROM address must be outages@domain.com
  3. Internal users will send from this mailbox to all other external domains and the FROM field must show: no-reply@domain.com

Not too confident how to accomplish this using a transport rule?  Has anyone set this up? If so how do i go about doing this.

Thanks,

Alexis
