Cross Forest Mailbox Migration - New-MoveRequest Unable to find computer information in domain controller to perform the suitability check. Verify the fully qualified domain name.

Hi There,

I've got quite an annoying issue when trying to create a cross forest move from a new business we've bought.

I've prepared the mailbox on the new server and when trying to start the move request I get the following issue:

Unable to find 'RTCDC1.rtc.co.uk' computer information in domain controller 'rtcdc1.rtc.co.uk' to perform the suitability check. Default Corporate Calendar Sharing Policy

$

I was excited to see that Exchange 2010 has a 'Default Sharing Policy' but dismayed to find out that it only applies to Federated Domains.

Our organization does not federate with other domains - however, we want to set a corporate default calendar policy to apply to all mailboxes.  We want everyone to have 'Reviewer' rights to everyone's calendar.  There are exceptions: 6 execs at the top of the food chain where we don't want anyone but their admins to have 'Reviwer' rights.

What is the best way to accomplish this? I appreciate your help on this one.

Thanks

My manager would like to know how many emails are sent and received by each of his employees per month.  We are running Exchange 2010 SP1.  Any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.  Ideally I would be able to enter in a time frame and pull stats for that time frame.

Thanks,

Migration from Exch2k3 to Exch2k10, will simply installing the new software disrupt mail flow?

$

Hello All,

I've done my research regarding the migration from Win2k3 to Win2k10 but I just had a general question about installing Exch2k10 in my environment, and not initially moving any mailboxes.  Could I install it, and NOT disrupt the mail flow currently in place?

I understand if I move mailboxes, those users would have to use OWA on the new server as opposed to the old, but I just wanted to confirm that just simply installing the Exch2k10 server in my environment, applying updates and SPs and NOT moving any mailboxes or public folders, that things will not be disrupted in our environment.  Thanks much.

Will out of office and Autodiscover work if the outlook profile is set to default as the local PST to receive mails instead of the mailbox on the server.

E-mail receive delay in Exchange 2010

Hi All, i have a question about the E-mail receive delay in Exchange 2010 Server.

Currently, we have 1 Exchange 2010 Server and 2 Exchange 2003 Server. CAS in Exchange 2010 and plan to migrate all the 2003 user to 2010. Therefore, we choose 1 spare account for testing the performance.

We found that the e-mail receiving in the spare account has a delay around 5-30mins. But the send out is working fine. Therefore, we enable the Message Tracking on Exchange 2010 Server. And we found that e-mail is received in Exchange 2010 Server but it just delay to deliver to the spare account mailbox.

Please advise on how to solve this problem. Thank you very much.

Completely remove Exchange 2010

Hi

I want to remove Exchange 2010 completely.  I see this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332361.aspx but does not spefically mention anything about active directory.  Will uninstalling exchagne this way completely remove all exchange active directory objects?  Does it matter if we are setup with a Parent-Child domain?  Hoping that uninstall removes objects from both Parent-Child domains.

Reason for complete removal is so we can do a fresh install of Exchange 2013 and from research it looks like they cannot coexist for another few months until a patch is released.  And we want to use 2013 now.

Thanks

Hi all,

After added 1000 users in Active dir by "AD Manager tool", I cannot create new mailbox because exchange 2k10 don't have "New Mailbox" option. Besides, exchange has some problems in its structure.

How to Read Calendar Diagnostic Logs

$

I've had a few reports of users saying that some reoccouring meetings were mysteriously dropping off of their calendars.  So I decided to output the calendar logs to get a better understanding of the situation.

I'm able to pull the calendardiagnosticlogs from exchange with no problem.

The problem is how to read them.

I can use MFCMapi to open them, but what method should I be using to make sense of the data so I can understand a sequence of events.

If anyone has a link that will help explain how to do this, it would be appreciated.

Exchange ADFS 2.0 integration to provide federated authentication and SSO

$
0

Hello,

I've recently been researching methods to provide federated authentication to users of a multi-tenanted Exchange & Lync environment. Currently I am tackling the first challenge which is OWA. I have used the following guides:

http://allmsft.blogspot.com/2012/02/owa-sp2-and-adfs.html

http://www.theidentityguy.com/articles/2010/10/15/access-owa-with-adfs.html

Combined with some other various guides on general ADFS configuration in order to successively configure OWA to allow for ADFS 2.0 to authenticate using the "Claims To Windows Token Service" integration with the OWA site in order to authenticate.

This seems promising, from my novice perspective I am assuming that enabling federation with another domain would simply be a matter of adding the other domain's ADFS 2.0 Proxy as a claims provider trust on the ADFS server in which Exchange exists and then having a mailbox in the exchange domain which has the UPN that gets passed through from the proxy server.

I've done this much and I am able to authenticate on the ADFS 2.0 proxy page of the user domain, however I am getting a failure which I think is coming from the WIF part of the OWA integration:

Request
Url: https://webmail.lab1.local:443/owa/
User host address: 192.168.23.77
OWA version: 14.2.247.5

Exception
Exception type: System.IdentityModel.Tokens.SecurityTokenException
Exception message: ID1054: The IClaimsIdentity did not contain a valid UPN Claim. The automatic Windows identity mapping feature requires exactly one non-empty UPN Claim to be provided.

Call stack
Microsoft.IdentityModel.Tokens.WindowsMappingOperations.FindUpn(IClaimsIdentity claimsIdentity)
Microsoft.IdentityModel.Tokens.Saml11.Saml11SecurityTokenHandler.ValidateToken(SecurityToken token)
Microsoft.IdentityModel.Web.TokenReceiver.AuthenticateToken(SecurityToken token, Boolean ensureBearerToken, String endpointUri)
Microsoft.IdentityModel.Web.WSFederationAuthenticationModule.SignInWithResponseMessage(HttpRequest request)
Microsoft.IdentityModel.Web.WSFederationAuthenticationModule.OnAuthenticateRequest(Object sender, EventArgs args)
System.Web.HttpApplication.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute()

System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously)

I am wondering whether this is an issue with the way that I have the Claim Provider setup, or if it's simply an issue with the claim rules either on the Claim Provider or on the Relying Party Trust within the ADFS 2.0 server in the user domain for the Exchange domain's ADFS 2.0 STS url.

I realize that providing ADFS 2.0 for Outlook, Activesync, and Lync are a whole other animal. If anyone knows of anyone who has actually published a guide on how to achieve this or possibly a third party product that provides the same result I'd appreciate that information as well.

Transport rules for credit card and SSN data

We are working on setting up the transport rules to block Credit Card and SSN data.  Regular expressions do not seem to be the key to doing this, as they are passing with no problem.  Am I missing something?  I was hoping to see a preconfigured option for blocking this data.

sbs2003/Exchange2003 move to Server2012/Ex2010

I am updating an IT environment which is currently a SBS2003/Exchange2003 single server environment. We are going to switch to new server hardware and want to go to Windows Server 2012/Exchange2010 as our software environment.

There are less than 10 users. The system is used for Exchange and a SQL-based MASS90 accounting app. Users do store some data in Server based User folders, but there is no Sharepoint or Web Server activity.

Rather than try some sort of migration I am willing and probably think it is best to do a clean install and some sort of PST approach to existing mail.

Are there any white papers or articles which would help me do this?

I will be installing both the server and Exchange software.

Autodiscover question during co-existence

$

I am in the process of planning an Exchange 2007 to 2010 co-existence transition and am seeking some clarification on some aspects that relate to the magical and mysterious Autodiscover service

Let me first state that I have done a tremendous amount of reading of various questions posed around Autodiscover in Exchange 2007/2010, on these forums and various other articles/blogs/posts. Despite that, the are certain aspects that still remain unclear.

Some details about current setup:

- Exchange 2007 (all roles on one server)
- CAS internal FQDN: http://cas07.mycompany.local
- OWA url: https://owa.mycompany.com
- ServiceBindingInformation field in SCP for Exchange 2007 CAS: https://owa.mycompany.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
- Names on SSL Cert: owa.company, com
- Names on legacy SSL cert: legacy.company.com
Note that we do not currently have http://autodiscover.mycompany.com on our SSL cert as have not had need for it. Oulookk Anywhere settings hard-coded into all computers by GPO.

As I understand it, when current Outlook 2010 clients open, they look at the value of the SCP for their CAS (https://owa.mycompany.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml). Through this, they receive they use the OAB and the Free/Busy services.

After installing Exchange 2010, the CAS server SCP will of course be the default:https://cas2010.mycompany.local/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

After entering into the co-existence phase, the Exchange 2007 CAS public URL will be legacy.company.com and the Exchange 2010 CAS public url owa.company.com. I will just be exporting the SSL cert with owa.mycompany.com from the current CAS server to the new one, not buying a new cert.

Following this change, I'm unsure what happens when Outlook clients open and look at the SCP for their CAS, My understanding is that they will continue to usehttps://owa.mycompany.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml. As a result of the change, this is now pointing to the CAS 2010 server, although their mailbox is still on the MBX 2007 server. So what happens? Does the CAS 2010 recognise that their mailbox is on MBX 2007 and redirects to the CAS 2007?

I presume will also have to change the value of the CAS 2010 SCP  ServiceBindingInformation fromhttps://cas2010.mycompany.local/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml to match the value on the CAS 2007 SCP(https://owa.mycompany.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml)?? The former is not named on the SSL cert??

Hoping for some expert assistance here to help my complete the picture.

cheers,

GB

disable activesync for new users in emc

hi

activesync was enabled for all and used some scripts to enable it for a special group

but the problem is :

when the support team creates a new user, its activesync is enabled by default

and they use emc not ems (do not want to tell them create users by scripts and cmdlets)

so how can i make activesync disabled for every new user created (we will enable if we like but the default after creation should be disabled)

thanks

Exchange 2010 SP2 DB growing so fast even after moving mailboxes

Hi,

I request your advice for DB size growing issue

i have over 5500 users (migrated from 2003 server) in a single 2010 SP2 DB. My SAN volume  where DB is located having 454 GB total space and the DB has grown to 414 GB now and since yesterday i started moving mailboxes to another DB ( 110 GB SSD HDD) as we do not have lack of SAN volumes. But still i see the database is growing quickly even though i have moved 16 GB of mailboxes to another DB mentioned before. During the past 24 hrs the DB has grown by 5 GB and i am afraid that i will run out of space soon. When i did a periodic  check today  for available white space it shows maximum 110 MB and the database keep growing. As you can see the report below the database is growing , the second DB is where i am moving mailboxes. I have enabled back ground maintenance for both DB and enabled circular logging to truncate the logs
