Hi,.

We have an Exchange 2010 Sp1 Hub and mailbox roles and FPE 2010 on a server 2008 R2 server and Exchange 2010 edg and TMG and FPE 2010 on a second server 2008 R2. we host the mail of 3 different domains on this exchange server and our customers access thier mails with OWA, OA en POP3.

Now I want to setup an back-up mail server, that in a case of a mail server failure then we dont loss the emails, until we get the exchange server back on line.

Could some one direct me to any document on how to do this?

Thanks

Can't move Public Folders from Exchange 2003 to 2010

$

Hi just upgraded from Exchange 2003 to 2010 SP1 over the weekend. I followed these instructions to migrate the Public folders to the new server:

-On old server, navigate to Administrative Groups > First Administrative Group > Servers > Servername > First Storage Group
-Right click on the Public Folder Store and select Move All Replicas.  The only option that should appear in the list is your Exchange 2010 server.  Click OK.

So I did that, however the public folders don't seem to move. It seems like it set up replication with the new server, since if I go on the old server and navigate to first administrative group->folders->public folders and right click on one of the public folders, there is a replication tab with the new server's public folder store in the list. However, I can't get them to actually show up in 2010.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello All,

On my 3 Node DAG, when i run Get-Mailbox -Server [Server Name] retunrs a huge list of mailboxes eventhough none of the mailbox databases are online on this server. I am not pretty sure, whether my understanding on this command is right or wrong.

OAB issue after migration

$

0

In the process of finishing up a 2003 - 2010 migration but am getting the following Application Log events every morning at 4AM:

Event 9360
OABGen encountered an error while generating the changes.oab file for version 2 and 3 differential downloads of address list '\Global Address List'.  The offline address book has not been updated so clients will not be able to download the current set of changes.  Check other logged events to find the cause of this error.
If the cause of the problem was intentional or cannot be resolved, OABGen can be forced to post a full offline address book by creating the DWORD registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Parameters\OAL post full if diff fails' and setting it to 1 on this server.  When OABGen next generates the offline address book, clients will perform a full OAB download.  After that time, the registry key should be removed to prevent further full downloads.
- \Default Offline Address List

Event 9340
A new parent Legacy Exchange DN container value '/o=Promoshop/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients' was found during generation of the differential update file for offline address list '\Global Address List'.  This will force clients using this offline address list to do a full download of the offline address list.
- \Default Offline Address List

What did I do wrong in this situation?

Exch2k3 migration to Exch2k10, outgoing OK, incoming stuck in Exch2k3 'Unreachable Destination' queue

I am simply just transferring over one user for the purposes of testing and mail flow testing.  Outgoing is OK on the Exch2k10 server, but all incoming emails to the user gets caught in the 'Messges with an Unreachable Destination' queue on the Exch2k3 server.  The installation was seamless, I installed SP2 then RU4.  Confirmed Client and Default settings were right, then create the Internet send connector....then moved over the user.  Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Active Directory operation failed on domain.local. This error is not retriable Exchange 2010

Hi Guys,

I am installing the first EX10 into an Exchange 2003 environment.

I ran through best practice and it completed preparing domain, but then failed on Hub transport installation.

In the end I uninstall Hub and install CAS role as per the best practice guide.

See link for information "http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/e47d2fc3-0883-49c9-998a-67e3026687e4/"

unfortunately part of the best practice you are requested to run.

Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "CAS01\EWS (Default Web Site)" -ExternalUrl https://mail.contoso.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx -BasicAuthentication:$True.

When i run this I get the error message at the end of this document. Most fixes stated to enable the inheritable permission. I have tried this and also tried changing Admincount from 1 to 0.

Any ideas of resolving this problem will be appreciated.

Craig

Exchange Circular Logging

Hi All,

I have a Exchange 2003 and 2010 (mid migration environemt).

I have not been running backups that commit the logs only snapshots at the LUN level (with a HIT KIT). I wanted to enable circualr logging for a while on DB's on both servers as my log drive is filling up.

do i need to dismount stores or anything before i do this? Will it casue any disruption to user accessing/sending email. When enabling it, will all the logs just be deleted?

Also when i want to renable it, is there a best practice?

Thanks

Gmail - 550 550 5.7.1 Missing purported responsible address (state 17).

Hi,

we have this problem, occasionally our exchange bounces mail from gmail.

gmailuser@gmail.com is configured to forward messages to our exchange mailbox user@exchdomain.com

and sometimes, but not always it bounces. Why is this happening? I find it hard to believe that gmail would not have SPF record or incompatible header format with exchange?

SenderID fails are configured to reject mail.

NDR:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

     user@exchdomain.com

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.7.1 Missing purported responsible address (state 17).

Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service was unable to process jobs in a mailbox database 1006.

HI all,

I ran into a problem with one of the servers in my DAG.  Due to a backup failure, the log partition filled up and the Exchange database went offline on this particular server.  The DAG continued to function on the other server.  So this particular DB01 had only some test accounts in it so I removed the database copy.  Unfortunately the removal must not have completed correctly.

After recovering the needed space in the partition, I tried to recopy the database and it failed.  So I deleted the entire database from the active server and it successfully removed it from the active server.  Now on both the servers the database is not showing, however I'm receiving the error below which indicates to me that the service still thinks the database exists.  I am also getting event 4113 Database redundancy health check failed for the database copy as it shows there is only one copy of the database (failed redundancy) but there should be zero copies.

This database no longer exists in AD as I have verified this with ADSI so it must have something on the exchange server that is still telling the service the database exists.

Can you point me to the location to clean this up?

Exchange 2010 SP2 Update Rollup 5

Does anyone have any clue what has happend to Exchange 2010 SP2 Update Rollup 5?

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/240.exchange-server-and-update-rollups-build-numbers.aspx lists it as KB2719800 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719800 but visiting this page just gives me a "Oops, the page you are looking for may have a new location or may no longer be available".

There is also an update KB2727802 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2727802 that has 'dissapeared'. It appears that I need this update as I'm experiencing problems moving mailboxes from Ex 2003 - 2010 with the Mailbox Replication Service constantly crashing as follows:

Watson report about to be sent for process id: 8636, with parameters: E12, c-RTL-AMD64, 14.02.0318.004, MSExchangeMailboxReplication, M.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService, M.E.M.MoveBaseJob.<BeginJob>b__c, System.NullReferenceException, 3b8, 14.02.0318.004.

Any ideas??

Event 9646, MSExchangeIS - Mapi session exceeded the maximum - Exchange 2010 SP1 w/ Update Roll Up 2

Based on the older version of this article here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2009942

I created the ParameterSystem Subkey, with the Maximun Polling Frequency key and set the Decimal value to 45000.
This was to mitigate the delay issues in Outlook 2003.
Ever since then I receive this error message in my event viewer.

Event 9646, MSExchangeIS

Mapi session "13fbc88b-c9fc-4b9c-9efd-14de7957eee4: /o=MYDOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=MYUSER" exceeded the maximum of 32 objects of type "session".

Another user get this:

Mapi session "2e5673f1-a3bd-4d56-b988-03c1267012b2: /o=MYDOMAIN/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=MYUSER" exceeded the maximum of 250 objects of type "objtMessage".

I have received about 6 of these.

I'm not saying this started as a result of me creating the subkey...Microsoft would have to confirm that.
I'm just saying that this is when I started to notice it.

My system specs are:
Exchange 2010 SP1 Enterprise - Update Roll Up 2
Windows Server 2008 R2 - All updated up until December 12, 2010.

Any ideas?

Need to Manage Exchange in Trusted Forest

$

I have a scenario where User account A which is a member of Universal Security Group A on Forest A needs to be able to Manage Exchange on Forest B.  There is a two way trust between the forests.

I've been following the instructions at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dd876918%28EXCHG.140%29.aspx which is entitled "Create Linked Role Groups that Mirror Built-in Role Groups", and performed the same 5 steps to create a Organization Management Linked Role Group.  The 5 steps were performed on the Exchange Server in Forest B.

Unfortunately, when user A runs EMC either from Forest A or directly on the exchange server in Forest B - he gets the error "The following error occured when retrieving user information for "FORESTA\USERA":  The operation couldn't be performend because the object 'S-1-5-21-2109259259241-1205553685-3412767256-1103' couldn't be found on 'dc1.forest.B'.  It was running the command 'Get-LogonUser'.

I understand the error is suggesting my user account does not exist on Forest B - which is correct - but the whole point of creating a linked role group is so that user accounts don't have to be created in the Exchange Forest.

Can anybody shed some light into this issue?

what name to use in exchange certificate?

outlook clients in site A connect to casarray1.domain.com as the exchange server name in outlook's profile.
This is also the name on the exchange cas certificate.
The cas array in site B is casarray2.domain.com
Site B is disaster recovery standby only. If site A fails, I would make a DNS change so that casarray1 points to the ip address of casarray2. Hope that makes sense. I am open to other alternatives.

What I ask is, what name should I have on exchange cas server certificate? casarray1.domain.com or casarray2.domain.com ?

Hi,

[Exchange 2010 SP1]

I have a number of users that have No items in their Deleted Items folder and No items in the Recover Deleted Items (Dumpster) folders. But when running Get-MailboxStatistics PowerShell cmdlet, the TotalDeletedItemSize and DeletedItemCount are showing large figures opposed to as zero.

Is there a PowerShell cmdlet to clean up the mailbox(es) to ensure the latest and correct information is displayed?
