Hi all,
Here is my situation: I have a public folder database that I am trying to decommission and remove (I am decommissioning the Exchange services in one of my 3 Exchange sites). I have run the moveallreplicas.ps1 script against the database to move all of folders to my other public folder databases and it ran without error. I am unable to remove the public folder database though, when I try it gives an error that I can't remove a PF DB with replicas in it. When I run Get-PublicFolderStatistics against the mailbox server that has that database it returns two system folders, \NON_IPM_SUBTREE\OFF LINE ADDRESS BOOK and \NON_IPM_SUBTREE\SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY.
How can I remove these two folders so I can remove this public folder database?
Running Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3.
Thanks, Jason
Hi,
i bought exchange certificate from godadday and since i used internal AD domain name that is public and i am not the owner of that public domain, godaddy could only issue the certificate for my public domain. For that reason i had to host public DNS zone on my internal DNS servers and i used public name for internal and external CAS URL. From time to time users get warning when starting Outlook client that certificate does not match the name and internal FQDN is displayed. What is troubling me is that why time to time and not always.
Set-ClientAccessServer
Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory
Set-OABVirtualDirectory
Set-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory
All commands are using public URL for internal and external URL.
What could i missed?
Hi, are there any guidelines or industry best pracitce for number of mailboxes per database in a DAG under 2010? The limit is 2TB, but given the current mailbox limit is tiny, all users could be stored in a 2TB database! Surely having 2000+ users in a 2 TB database is not a good idea?
Is there a figure that better relates to real life best practice, or do mailboxes per database bear no result in a DAG as I cannot find any guidelines around this.
As an example:
Surely MS have some guidelines around this? 2010 has to index mailboxes and I would have thought there would be some sort of limit or advice around this? Anyone have any good links?
I keep seeing some people say keep databases under 200GB as best practice, but I would like to see some official documents if available?
Thanks
I have Admin Audit log enabled in Exchange 2010 SP2 setup and has many changes in a specific date. But when I run audit report from ECP then the resulting xml file shows only below information instead of the ones which admins do in their day to day administration job:
Here is the only output line which is repeated 1000 of times:
<Event Caller="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM (powershell)" Cmdlet="Set-MailboxDatabase" ObjectModified="DB11" RunDate="2012-12-02T03:24:48+04:00" Succeeded="true" Error="None" OriginatingServer="PEXMBOX20104 (14.02.0297.000)"><CmdletParameters><Parameter Name="Identity" Value="DB11" /><Parameter Name="IsExcludedFromProvisioning" Value="True" /></CmdletParameters></Event>
What can be the reason?
Hi everyone,
How can I force Autodiscover to configure Outlook through HTTPS (Outlook Anywhere) even when the user in on a domain-joined computer (the DC is reachable and Outlook Anywhere is already configured)?
My Exchange deployment has different internal and external URLs:
Internal URL: https://server.klonic.local/xxxxxx (OAB, OWA, etc..)
External URL: https://mail.klonic.local/xxxxxxx (OAB, OWA, etc...)
If I configure an Outlook profile inside the local network from a domain-joined computer, Outlook won't get the HTTPS configuration (Outlook Anywhere). Doing so from a non-domain joined computer will configure Outlook with HTTPS.
My question came because I had a customer whose Exchange server did have the same URLs (i.e. Internal URLs = External URLs). He had Outlook Anywhere configured and users always got the Outlook Anywhere configuration when starting a new Outlook profile, even when inside the local LAN where the DC was reachable (actually DC on the same server as Exchange).
Thank you very much.

Greetings Exchange community. Please bear with me as this is my first exchange migration. I'm hoping that someone can assist me with a problem that is driving me absolutely insane. I have searched forums for hours and I am still unable to come up with a resolution to this problem...
For the purpose of confidentially, I will be using the contoso.com domain within this thread...
I am in the midst of a migration from Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchange 2010 SP2 rollup4v2. Our Exchange 2010 environment consists of a single hub transport / client access server, and a single mailbox server. We are not using an edge transport server.
I am having a problem getting outlook anywhere to function properly with our non-domain outlook 2010 clients...
When setting up an email account for outlook anywhere, I am either endlessly prompted for authentication, or receive the following errors:
"The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action".
"Your server or mailbox names cannot be resolved".
Within the e-mail account setup I have proxy settings in place "msstd:mail.contoso.com" and I am using Basic authentication from the outlook client, NTLM (for outlook anywhere) on the exchange hub/cas server.
I ran the ExRCA for outlook anywhere using autodiscover. All tests pass, with the exception of the last:
Testing the Name Service Provider Interface (NSPI) on the Exchange Mailbox server.
An error occurred while testing the NSPI RPC endpoint
Attempting to ping RPC endpoint 6004 (NSPI Proxy Interface) on server HUBCAS01.internal.contoso.com.
Additional Details
The RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE error (0x6ba) was thrown by the RPC Runtime process.
It would appear that my hubcas server is not listening on the required ports:
TCP 0.0.0.0:6001 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP 0.0.0.0:6005 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP 0.0.0.0:6006 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP 0.0.0.0:6007 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP 0.0.0.0:6008 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP [::]:6001 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP [::]:6005 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP [::]:6006 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP [::]:6007 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
TCP [::]:6008 HUBCAS01:0 LISTENING
RPC over HTTP Proxy feature is installed on the hub/cas server. There is no redirection set within RPC IIS vdir and SSL is required, client certificates are ignored.
I am using a trusted commercial SAN cert with the following hostnames:
mail.contoso.com
legacy.contoso.com
autodiscover.contoso.com

Hello,
I've recently been researching methods to provide federated authentication to users of a multi-tenanted Exchange & Lync environment. Currently I am tackling the first challenge which is OWA. I have used the following guides:
http://allmsft.blogspot.com/2012/02/owa-sp2-and-adfs.html
http://www.theidentityguy.com/articles/2010/10/15/access-owa-with-adfs.html
Combined with some other various guides on general ADFS configuration in order to successively configure OWA to allow for ADFS 2.0 to authenticate using the "Claims To Windows Token Service" integration with the OWA site in order to authenticate.
This seems promising, from my novice perspective I am assuming that enabling federation with another domain would simply be a matter of adding the other domain's ADFS 2.0 Proxy as a claims provider trust on the ADFS server in which Exchange exists and then having a mailbox in the exchange domain which has the UPN that gets passed through from the proxy server.
I've done this much and I am able to authenticate on the ADFS 2.0 proxy page of the user domain, however I am getting a failure which I think is coming from the WIF part of the OWA integration:
RequestSystem.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously)
I am wondering whether this is an issue with the way that I have the Claim Provider setup, or if it's simply an issue with the claim rules either on the Claim Provider or on the Relying Party Trust within the ADFS 2.0 server in the user domain for the Exchange domain's ADFS 2.0 STS url.
I realize that providing ADFS 2.0 for Outlook, Activesync, and Lync are a whole other animal. If anyone knows of anyone who has actually published a guide on how to achieve this or possibly a third party product that provides the same result I'd appreciate that information as well.
Hi
I want to remove Exchange 2010 completely. I see this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332361.aspx but does not spefically mention anything about active directory. Will uninstalling exchagne this way completely remove all exchange active directory objects? Does it matter if we are setup with a Parent-Child domain? Hoping that uninstall removes objects from both Parent-Child domains.
Reason for complete removal is so we can do a fresh install of Exchange 2013 and from research it looks like they cannot coexist for another few months until a patch is released. And we want to use 2013 now.
Thanks

Hi dear experts,
can anyone help me with this: I have a domain in a forest lets say domain A.local and a branch office that has a separate forest and separate domain B.local . how can i deploy my exchange servers to support both domain users with a same external address (for example COMPANY.COM). the branch has an intranet connection to head quarter and they are both connected to internet . i want the users in both offices to work locally together if we lose intranet connection. ( i mean the users in each office are authenticating to their own domain controller )
quick response will be REALLY appreciated.
thanks
We are in the process of migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. I'm working through the process of implementing the movement to using the CAS 2010 environment with the same namespace (mail.company.com) and then have looked at using the legacy.company.com namespace for the 2007 environment.
In trying to test the Activesync clients it is painful to understand if things will work in a reasonable fashion. My thinking is we can simply remove the EXTERNAL URL for ACTIVESYNC and allow the 2010 environment to proxy the user information from the 2010 CAS environment. This will allow user to NOT have to change any activesync device setting and it will be a seamless transition.
So in Summary:
Activesync: Change ExternalURL to null on the 2007 servers to force 2010 CAS to proxy the information.
Outlook Anywhere - disabled on the 2007 CAS Server so 2010 CAS will proxy the information.
OWA - See no reason to do the same Change the ExternalURL to null so 2010 CAS will proxy the information.
Does anyone see any issues/problems with this approach?
THANKS
I cant connect our android and iPhone devices with exchange active sync. I have already followed the link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/620c5ce8-3595-4658-9a7a-ec76c10e4a69.aspx which the hyperlink from the image screen shot to aenable the Active Directory account to inherit permission.

Greetings All,
I am about to embark on a Groupwise 8 to Exchange 2010 migration and need advice regarding tools.
So far I have looked into Quest and Messaging Architects and have found that both require some kind of training, certification or professional services commitment. I just want a tool that I can buy and run myself without committing to anything from the vendor. Can anyone recommend a migration tool that may suit?
Regards,
PK
I have trawled the internet all day without finding a solution to this one.
When my Default Web Site (IIS) is running, I get the following error 6 times every half hour in the Application Log.
(Process w3wp.exe, PID xxxxx) "RBAC authorization returns Access Denied for user <DOMAIN>/Domain Controllers/<SERVER NAME>. Reason: No role assignments associated with the specified user were found on Domain Controller <SERVER NAME>
As far as I can see, I have no scheduled tasks running every 30 minutes, so I cannot even work out what is triggering the error.
I have seen various posts about backup permissions, but my scheduled backup is running in the <DOMAIN>\Adminstrator account, and that account is in the Exchange "Organisation Management" group, so this does not appear to be related to the problem.
Can anyone throw any light on this / help me solve the problem?
Hello,
I have two Exchange 2010 server configured in DAG. I did not configur a CAS array nor a NLB.
Most of my users use Outlook but some must use IMAP.
For security reasons I want to configure these connections to use Kerberos.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've bin searching the net already but can't find how to configur this on a single CAS server.
Thanks.
When best practice analyzer i get an error saying that mailbox role is not setup correctly please run setup again, after running setup i get the following errors ( See setup log below)

Hi,
We have an exchange 2010 SP1, and we access this Exchange 2010 only with OA/OWA en POP. we have an contacts list that all of our company's contacts are in this list. to make this abvilble to our users we had an .pst file from this contacts list, and we did create folder under the All Public folders and called it company contactsand then copy the contacts.pst to the Public folder\ All public folders\Company contacts, after with did change the access rights to this folder and our users can from Public folder\ all public folders\Company contacts access the tel nr ,email address ,etc.
But when a users open a new email (from OA) and click TO then navigate to address book they cannot see the Public folder at all. but when myself (with domain admins right) go to the same location can see the publick folder but when click on it can not see any content there.
Any idea to make the public folder availble under address book.
Thanks

I searched over internet and found many people talking about IIS Manager name beside comparability of Exchange 2010 with Win Server 2012.
Is their any way that I can overcome this problem.
Please help.
